It will matter to the students because they will be able to connect with water because it is around them all the time. Also, asking them what they would do without water will open their eyes to see the how important water is. I find it relevant to teach in my future classroom because I know a lot about water. I think I will be able to teacher it and answer any question the students have on it because I do know a lot about water. I think the importance of water preservation is an important skill for any elementary students to have. The reason is because one day they will be the ones taking over and creating ways to make our water more sustainable. They need to know the basic's before they do that and that is why I am here. It relates to many other content area. Science because we are learning about the water cycle. language arts, because they will be reading articles. Writing because they will be writing about what they learned.

Student's will be doing an activity that allows them to use there knowledge of the water cycle to learn about the process of how the water moves around and about earth surface.

First, i will start by reviewing the water cycle by showing the students the water cycle rap video
Then, the students will create a three water bottles with different environments. A forest, ice, and mountain environment. The students will learn what happens in each of them.
For, example the ice environment. The students will add water and then add the ice and see what happens. The ice will melt. Now i will connect the ice melting to somewhere on the planet where there is a lot of ice. This is how we are moving conversation beyond the classroom.
After observing each model it's time to turn those observation into vocabulary words. For example, run-off, qualification, etc.
The last thing the students need to do is summarize there learning by writing a paragraph on what they learned
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNW1evt93e4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qtd5_w7gBs

Why would water be included under sustainability when the earth is about 71 percent water, you might ask. Well although we do have more water then land, what really matters is drinkable water. Freshwater makes up a very small fraction of all water on the planet. While nearly 70 percent of the world is covered by water, only 2.5 percent of it is fresh. The rest is saline and ocean-based. Even then, just 1 percent of our freshwater is easily accessible, with much of it trapped in glaciers and snowfields.
We are in a water crisis and we can no longer ignore the issue. The less water we have the more the cost of water goes up. Also, almost everything needs water to grow and to live. There are a lot of lake that have dried out and killed all the fish and animals that lived there. As we all known, humans can not live without water. We have a very small percentage of clean and accessible water that we are overusing.

https://www.nationalgeographic.com/freshwater/freshwater-crisis.html

on day three the students will learn the importance of water related to trees.

I will start this by first sharing a video with them that talks about this. The video is a bit kiddish but it spells it out for the students letter by letter.

After the video, the student will be making there own water bag. The way the students will be doing this is by going outside. They will need to slip a clear plastic bag over some leaves on the end of a branch of a tree. Then tie the bag tightly to the branch with the twist-tie. Then the students will observe the tree and see that the tree releases water. The process of getting water from the tree is called, transpiration. Transpiration cools the plant on a hot day and is also involved in helping the plant move water.

Doing this activity will help them learn that every living organism needs water to survive. The students will also be encourage to do this activity at home. This way they can teach their parents what they learned.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fecessadATQ
http://blog.growingwithscience.com/2013/06/exploring-the-importance-of-water-to-living-things/

The last day! I will first review what the students have learned in the past couple of days. The way i will do this is by drawing on the board and asking questions. For example; "Okay so we learned about the water cycle what was next?" "We did the water bottle activity!" Then i will draw three water bottle. The point of all this is make connections of all the days to this final day. This is where i will include future thinking. Connection the past and the present to change something in the future. The thing the students will change in the future is one behavior.

The students will use there technology to look at the website that i shared with them. The website has a lot of kid friends thing they can do to reduce there water usage. I want my student to use the information they learned from the past few days and today to change their behavior of water which will in the end impact there future.

The students will pick one thing they will change and write it on a paper and stick it in a bulletin board, which will get hung in class. They will see that and remember that they made a commitment to reduce their water usage.
