3. The story ends with the following line: “Everything was quiet and lovely in the sunlight, the peaceful sky, the gentle line of the hills. Mrs. Walpole closed her eyes, suddenly feeling the harsh hands pulling her down, the sharp points closing in on her throat.” What could this line mean in the context of the story? When the children recommend the most gruesome way to 'fix the dog' the fact that her own blood could recommend something so gruesome and crazy, "Mrs.Walpole looked at them , at her two children with their hard hands and their sunburnt faces laughing together, their dog with blood still on her legs laughing with them." PG 80 reminds us that john ignored his outer family because he knew they were crazy and just after his money, just as they proved once he had passed away. Even though people around you are your blood doesnt mean you can trust them, or that they have to be your family.
2.a person who deserts and betrays an organization, country, or set of principles. In the contexts of the story it could mean that the mom (Mrs.Walpole) wont or isn't lessening to the vast majority of her town (making her the renegade) due to how they react to the dog, and their methods of fixing it. "Mrs.Walpole left him abruptly, she could not shake the feeling that if it were not for Mr.White, Lady would not have been identified as the dog killing the chickens." PG 75

The renegade is Mrs.Walpole because she is trying to figure out how to stop her dog from chasing and killing chickens. Her children were eating breakfast, left for school, and were coming back for lunch around noon
2.  Mrs. Walpole got a phone call from her Neighbors saying her dog Lady Walpole had killed some of their chickens (Old Man White is a snitch)
3. Mrs. Walpole has sort of a moment of anger and resentment for leaving the city and moving to the country, she eats something to feed herself and also drink some coffee 
4. Mrs. Walpole heads over to  Mrs. Nash house where she is making some homemade donuts and talks to her about Lady Walpole incident and advises that she get a stout chain to keep the dog on
5. Mrs. W runs into Old Man White on her way to the store and he advises her to tie a dead chicken around Lady's neck and let it rot until the dog cannot take it anymore and will not be able to stand being around chickens
6. Mrs. W is at the store and tells them to stay a roast for Mrs. N . The grocer also warns Mrs. W about someone potentially killing Lady over the whole situation
7. The man and the grocer both give her some advice on how to handle Lady. The first way is to tie a dead chicken around her neck like Old Man White said. The second way is to get a egg and let it rot until the dog has the urge to mess with it and let it eat it. And the last way is to put the dog in the chicken coop and let the hen cause mayhem on the dog to the point where possibly their eyes is scratched out.
8. Lastly Mrs. W returns home after feeling faint and cleans up the kitchen table and sink. Lady returned with blood on her. Mrs. W makes food for her children as they come home and they talk about how they heard about Lady killing the chickens and what could happen to her if she does it again. 2. Renegade: A person who goes against the norm of a country, group, city, principals, etc. In the story renegade is used to describe Mrs. Walpole as she tries to figure out who's responsible for the chickens killings.
