John Adams served as president on March 4, 1797 – March 4, 1801. Some accomplishments John Adams accomplished as president were he played a principal role in administering the American Revolutionary War. He was a leading member of the Continental Congress.

Thomas Jefferson served as president on March 4, 1801 – March 4, 1809. The most important accomplishment Thomas Jefferson accomplished was the Louisiana Purchase. He wrote the Declaration of Independence. He served as the third President of the United States. He wanted to pay the government debt. He also wanted to cut taxes on the production and sale of some products, such as whiskey and tobacco. The Virginia resolutions were political statements drafted in 1798 and 1799. Thomas Jefferson removed the alien and sedition acts because they were denounced by Democratic-Republicans and helped them to victory in the 1800 election. The trade Embargo with Britain was an attempt by President Thomas Jefferson and the U.S. Congress to prohibit American ships from trading in foreign ports.

James Madison served as president on March 4, 1809 – March 4, 1817. The causes of the War of 1812 were a series of economic sanctions taken by the British and French against the US as part of the Napoleonic Wars. The British burned down the white house because during the War of 1812, the British were urged to attack the former colonies after American troops attacked Canada and burned government buildings. The peace treaty with the British was the official peace treaty between the United States and Britain that ended the American Revolutionary War.
