There was a group called the Carbonari that were revolutionaries that formed during the Napoleonic wars in the south calling for Constitutional monarchy or even republicanism. Giuseppe Mazzini founded a organization called young Italy which was made to unify the peninsula. And over a couple of years they already had over 60,000 members. The Italian people then wanted a new constitution throughout Italy and they fought with the leaders and got a new constitution. Giuseppe Mazzini, (born June 22, 1805, Genoa [Italy]—died March 10, 1872, Pisa, Italy), Genoese propagandist and revolutionary, founder of the secret revolutionary society Young Italy (1832), and a champion of the movement for Italian unity known as the Risorgimento. An uncompromising republican, he refused to participate in the parliamentary government that was established under the monarchy of the House of Savoy when Italy became unified and independent (1861).

They imported a lot of slaves to farm the plants. And there was around 20,000 whites and around 50,000 free people of color which they also sometimes owned slaves and farms. But the balk of the population was slaves around 500,000 which lived in horrible conditioned. Many slaves were able to escape and joined a group called the Maroons they lived in the mountains and elected there own leaders. In just a couple of months the group grew to tons of thousands. They destroyed hundreds of plantations and killed thousands of whites. The slaves would fight the British trying to take control of them and win.
