He doesn't feel that he can just leave. He seems to be in fear of the woman and judging by her facial expressions, she knows she has power over him. Why doesn't he just walk away? I think it is effective at promoting awareness. This might be due to the machoistic associations with football and the adrenalin surges from watching the games.
