I felt a deep connection with my colleague when talking about our anxiety with imposter syndrome, navigating challenging cases and finding work/life balance. I believe vulnerability is connection! Whenever I feel safe to share difficult emotions and have another person relate, it helps deepen the relationship.

I went to see a show with my friend Susan, who was my sponsor in recovery. She is from DC and invited me to the Kennedy Center to see the show. The show was beautiful and had strong themes of family dysfunction, trauma, and substance use. We both sat in the theater, holding hands and weeping uncontrollably throughout the show. I felt for the first time that some completely understood my experience as hers was strikingly similar to mine. It is my fondest memory of her. She died last year and I am so grateful to have had her in my life. Healing and vulnerability were the foundation of our connection.
