In this musical Even lied the whole time in order to “protect” other people, but really it was for himself. Now the lie is falling apart in this song and he's trying desperately to salvage it(first verse), but three people already know and aren't quite happy about it(second verse)

Now, I doubt your mom will die from a little white lie in the modern world, but, back then you can-and  Romeo and Juliet did. Lying has a huge range of consequences.

People lie to protect themselves, in many ways, like in this song: The  artist lies to himself, saying his moved on, in order to try to get through a heartbreak. When Romeo was banished Juliet was planning to kill herself, but the friar kept telling her it would work out. So she beloved him in order to keep herself sane and went through with the plan.

Most people lie so others can have a good impression on them, that's what the artist is doing in this song and that's exactly what Juliet did through-out the story.

We lie in order to protect ourselves. In Romeo and Juliet, Juliet lied to her parents about her and Romeo's Relationship as it would cause a huge mess, she lied in order to protect her and Romeo and maintain a good 

relationship with her parents. We also lie for that same reason most of the time.
