Hey, it would be a huge help if you could answer these couple of questions in as much detail as possible! Do models impact our mental health and idea of body image in any way? Do they put their own mental health at risk going into this area of work, why is this? Lets keep the discussion going! Thank you in advance :)

I personally don’t feel models impact my own mental health but I see it in others that they are trying to achieve unrealistic goals mainly weight loss. Models in the fashion industry must feel pressure themselves in maintaining their own looks and weight in fear of losing work. Adverts using different models compared to the norm are much more relatable and I would more likely take note of what they are trying to promote.

I think that the fashion industry as a whole is to blame for the well-being of both the model and consumer. Similar to the first comment, models are being dictated to by brands, who are then putting the damaging content out for consumers to see. There needs to be more consistency of diversity in the fashion industry for there to be a change.

I personally feel as though models have impacted my mentality health, especially when I was younger and impressionable. Some of the photographs I would see in magazines and on social media made me feel really insecure and I formed an intense fear of gaining weight, to the point where I would almost fear food. As time has gone on and I’ve grown up and a feel as though the industry has too, it’s getting better at showing inclusivity and all body shapes but I do think it’s got quite a way to go yet, it’s definitely on the right track though! Hope this helps :)

I think the fashion industry's got a lot to answer too. Especially all this photoshopping that goes on in magazines and on newsfeeds. The fashion industry has a massive impact on people's mental health, things are trying to change but there's not a massive improvement on this yet. I feel that a model's mental health must suffer, trying to keep up with such a demanding life style can't be easy. Everyone is different in body size and the fashion industry needs to realise this.

I think models impact our mental and physical health massively without us even realising if I’m honest! I think models must be very strong minded individuals to do the job they do. Forever competing for work along with keeping a strict diet and work out routine to maintain their shape and size as this is what brands look at first!
