In my opinion, both of the strategies are helpful in enhancing one’s reading skills. The former strategy is useful in helping the students to achieve their purpose of reading. In fact, it can lead the students to apply critical thinking skills upon jotting down the questions. Critical thinking helps in encouraging curiosity, which is helpful in aiding the students to gain a deeper and wider range of understanding in any topic. 

Finally, making sense of difficult words by using other information in the text can help to boost students’ creativity. It is an ideal tool for students to discover new knowledge and simply apply their imaginations to solve complex problems.

3.      It is a useful strategy as it allows us to have that sense of ‘anticipation’ where we want to make prediction beforehand. Its more of a personalized question which you want to see yourself getting some answers. It could be for self-development or even some take-aways you would like to take back with you after reading a particular text.

In my opinion, all strategies are useful. That is why it is called strategy. Different strategy may be effective to different people. As for me I would say strategy #1 and #13 are useful for me because I always do things with purpose. These strategies also helps students to focus on the goal of reading text rather than need to reread again to understand. But, there are some students find strategy #10, when you read for the first time, look up only the words that are essential for understanding the text is more helpful and effective because sometimes they don’t really understand the text so they need to read it back to keep on track.

I think the strategy would be useful for the students because by generating the questions, students become aware of whether they can answer the question and able to monitor their understanding of the text. This can improve students’ reading comprehension as well as boost them to think about the text beyond what they are reading. Other than that, this strategy helps students to think creatively as they need to develop and recognise the questions first in order to proceed to find the answers. This somehow challenges them to utilize their high level thinking skills. 

Meanwhile, strategy 12; try to use other information in the text to make sense of difficult words could be useful as it is unlikely that students will know every word in the text. Hence, by using this strategy, it may help students to figure out the meaning of the words by identifying the context in which the word is used and their background knowledge regarding the word related to the topic. This also somehow saves time as students do not have to look up every word that they are unfamiliar with in the dictionary, instead they make sense of the word by using this strategy.
