Since last week has been the first week of college for this year, I experimented with Microsoft Excel. Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet data collection where students can input data. I use this to put my assignments due in order and ensure that I am planing out my goals for the week and executing my tasks. This is how I'm staying active this year and achieving my academic goals.

In the process of developing my skills for my future career in education, I have mapped a goal list for myself. My goal is to start teaching by the time I turn 21 years old, which means I hope to graduate in the spring of 2024. While this is my first year in college, I hope to graduate early. In order to fulfill this intention, I must be mindful in my class registration to achieve this goal. By planning my college career, I will be able to learn more meaningfully because I'm being intentional with my goals. My goal map is listed above.

In my Spanish class, one of my first assignments was to order my food in Spanish at a Mexican restaurant. This real-world experience allowed me to better understand and remember vocabulary and conversational words. I will never forget this experience because it allowed me to gain confidence in my Spanish skills and gain knowledge in the real world context.

Throughout my senior year of high school, I was given the opportunity to intern a 3rd grade english and reading class. It was through this internship that I was able to gain knowledge through a real-world experience of teaching and managing a classroom. The knowledge I learned from my Teaching as a Profession class was able to be applied in my practicum internship. Through this learning experience I was able to further my knowledge in education and class management.

In the Summer of 2021, I took a Teaching in Diverse Environments class. It was through this class that I was able to reflect on my own statements, listen to my classmate's discussions, and reply to their statements made. Through this course we covered great content. One peer especially made great points in every topic and I enjoyed listening and collaborating with her input. There are many ideas and opinions that surfaced through the ICL class, so it was beneficial for me to learn the different views on topics and add to my own knowledge.

During my literature class this semester we take part in many conversations during lecture time. These conversations range from all types of ideas and beliefs within the literature content being discussed. I enjoy this class time because I recognize the connections being made in the content. When discussions are made, I see that there are many possible answers to a single question. I have begun to acknowledge and appreciate the opinions and ideas from others. When the class was asked questions about our favorite literature and what do we like about it, the answers provided me with many different insights from my peers. These answers influenced me to do my own research in the literature to see if I would like what they appreciate.

In my Teaching as a Profession class, I had to demonstrate a lesson to my peers. In order to get credit for this demonstration, I had to write a lesson plan, prepare materials needed, and create a powerpoint. Throughout the lesson I showed my peers how to observe and identify the moon phases. My lesson plan was drawn to ensure that I had all points covered. In the midst of the lesson, I had to manipulate my original lesson plan in order to fit the needs for my students. This experience not only taught me how to write a lesson plan and how to demonstrate a lesson, but it also taught me how to manipulate my original work and observe how it affects my students. My mock lesson allowed me to observe how the students respond to the lesson and then add to my lesson in the midst of teaching. This allowed me to experience active learning.

During my biology lab class, my peers and I were able to swab our cheek cells and observe them under a microscope. If you place a cheek cell in a hypotonic solution, the cell will be filled with water and begin to swell. This experiment allowed me to manipulate my own cheek cells and observe them as they swell in a hypotonic solution. Through this lab, I fully learned the difference between hypotonic and hypertonic solutions and their effects because I manipulated and observed the skills. My cheek cells from the lab are shown above before the hypotonic solution.

After my cheek cell lab, I was able to reflect on how my cheek cells reacted to the hypotonic solution. I was able to fully understand the process of hypotonic solutions and how it can affect cells. The shock after the lab caused me to become more curious about the cells and observing under the microscope. This lab helped me to understand this concept on a new thought level.

After my Teaching as a Profession lesson, I was able to write a reflection to be turned in. In my reflection I wrote how I manipulated the lesson in several different ways while I was teaching when I observed my peers' input, and how I could add or change the Oreo activity. I learned the importance of making lesson plans flexible. In the Oreo moon phase activity of my lesson, there were discrepancies with the Oreos (Problems with the filling, cookies breaking, and the want to eat the cookies). I learned that some students might do better with black and white paper instead of what I originally thought would work. This reflection allowed me to see the growth opportunities in a lesson plan and how it can be better fixated to a student.
