In the end, a federal judge ruled in favor of Apple, but not without raising serious issues on cybersecurity. Apple claimed that unlocking the iPhone would put millions of other iPhone user’s data in danger.

The 4th amendment states that a person be free of unreasonable searches and seizures. This stops the government from invading people’s privacy, thus making it an important right. However, it does not contain any information about privacy in regards to the internet. Therefore, the 4th amendment should also have an extra clause, one that states “law enforcement must receive warrants for online searches,” as an owner will expect their account to be private.

If a clause is not added to the 4th amendment regarding the internet, then it would be impossible to be able to conduct searches necessary to keep citizens safe. As technology keeps on improving, more and more data will be stored online. If this is not added in, then every court case would be tedious and time consuming.

The world has evolved a lot today, and it is far different from the time the founding fathers wrote the constitution. Back then, your belongings meant physical things that you could touch. However, today, your “stuff” may be things on your email account. The founding fathers obviously wanted the 4th amendment to keep people from being abused by the government, but today, information that is kept on the web may be essential to gather evidence for cases
