I was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota in 1922. My dad was a barber whose hardworking perserverance inspired me to work hard at my job as a cartoonist. He was always a humble person who never complained about the work that was presented to him. I think I got that trait from him! Without him I never would of been able to create comics everyday.

I'm not really sure when I really started to think of Peanuts as a full time job. I guess it was after the popularity of the strip started growing. Before that I had always thought of it as a way to make a little money before I get my real job. I'm glad I stuck with cartooning as it has brought me many good things in my life.

Over the course of my timr that I have lived in California, I had never seen quite a project like the Redwood Empire Ice Arena or the Snoopy Ice Palace. Originally created by my first wife, Joyce, this palace is where I spent my days when I wasn't cartooning. Modeled after a German village, this Ice Arena had top of the line heating which kept the building at a comfertable temperature of 70 degrees with the ice staying intact. Now that I think about it, the cafe inside the building is where I met my second wife. Isn't that ironic?
