Character: When Cherry is talking to Ponyboy about Bob's death, she seems to be blaming everyone and everything but Bob. She doesn't blame Johnny for it because it was self defense. Cherry says Bob is sweet sometimes but the Greasers only see the bad, drunk side of him. She blames the liquor store for selling alcohol to kids and that is why Bob is drunk all of the time. It seems as if Cherry hasn't totally come to terms with Bob's death so she blames everything else for it. Cherry confesses to Ponyboy that the reason she won't see Johnny is because she can't see the face of the person who killed someone she loved. I understand why she won't see him, but at the same time she is on the Greasers side saying it was self defense.

"Sixteen years in the streets and you can learn a lot. But all the wrong things, not the things you want to learn.... years of living on the east side teaches you how to shut off your emotions." This quote relates to the tough situation that Pony boy is in. He's seen and learned so many things from the east side but nothing as big as this. He has to hide his emotions to trick himself into having some hope for johnny.

"I don't want to see her. he said firmly." This shows a character change in Johnny because he has always been scared of his parents. This was important because he stood up for himself even at a time where he isn't very strong, he knew what he wanted even when people tried to talk him out of it.

During Cherry's grieving process, she begins blaming everything for Bob's death. She blames the liquor store for selling alcohol to kids. She blames Johnny for killing him. She is trying to make sense of a traumatic event that happened by putting blame in others. She's also trying to right Bob's wrongs by helping out the Greasers. Over time, Cherry will come to terms with Bob's death. However, with the wound raw, the only way she can cope is to think that others are at fault.
