Russia is indeed a unique country, which, along with highly developed modern culture carefully preserves the national traditions deeply rooted not only in the Orthodox religion but also in paganism. The Russians still celebrate pagan holidays, many people believe in numerous omens and legends.

Kama River, in russian reka kama, river in west-central Russia. Rising in the Upper Kama Upland of Ubdmurtia, it flows north, then east, south, and southwest for 1,122 miles (1,805 km) until it enters the Volga River. In addition to drinking water, the water provided the communities with fertile soil, power for hammers and mills. However, the most important function of rivers and the sea over the centuries has been as a transportation route for commerce and navigation.
The settlements developed in well-situated places along the water fronts. Water fronts, natural borders of the territory, then frequently evolved to become connecting lines for countries, towns and cities. This, in turn, caused them to be seen as symbols of identity, forging close emotional ties. Coasts and rivers are important landmarks of territories and important sources of identity, history and imagination. They are also links, transportation corridors, and places of strong economic growth. But they can also pose a threat through flooding, today often due to uncontrolled urbanization, sealing of natural soil, channeling of rivers and climate change.
