How a Car Engine Works in a Nutshell

The engine is the main source of power for a car to move. There are currently two kinds of engines in production; the spark ignition gasoline engine and the compression ignition diesel engine. The one that is in most of everyone's car is the spark ignition gasoline engine. We all put gasoline in our cars but for what? Gasoline is what is needed in order to power up the engine. Besides gasoline there are two other liquids needed in order for car engines to work; coolant and lubricant. Engine is shaped like the letter V because it is the intake and outtake valve. A mixture of air and gasoline is put inside a combustion chamber from the intake valve. Then a spark plug which is already set inside the chamber lights a tiny spark inside the chamber causing a tiny explosion inside the chamber. That tiny explosion causes the piston to go up and down moving the crankshaft back and forth. After the combustion, the leftovers go out the exhaust pipe.

The job of a car suspension is to maximize the friction between your car tires and the road surface to provide steering stability, handling as well as comfort for the driver. If all roads were perfectly flat without any bumps, a suspension won't be needed. There are four main parts to a car's suspension. The control arm, shock absorber, steering linkage, and the frame.

Automatic vs Manual Transmission

- Automatic -
Automatic Transmission is what most cars have today. Automatic transmission does the shifting of gears for you, which makes it easier for beginner drivers to learn in. Automatic also lets you keep both hands on the steering wheel giving you a much safer ride. However automatic tend to cost more, need better maintenance, and they are not as economically friendly.

- Manual -
Manual Transmissions are still used in Formula 1, Rally, Daytona, Indy races to this day. Why is that? It's because the drivers has full control of when to shift gears which makes it easier to start and stop. But also it is harder to control as you need to concentrate on shifting gears, you have 3 pedals to deal with, and you need to keep one of your hands off while shifting.

A Honda Civic has an engine size of V4. A Lamborghini has an engine size of V12. The bigger the engine size, more horsepower there is to a car. All engines are the same, airplanes, boats, atv's use the same engine as cars. For example, Rolls Royce, a car company known for their luxury car actually started out as an airplane company. A set of engine has two cylinders that makes it look like the letter V which is why engines are classified by the letter V.

The most common and easiest way to get your batteries started is by jump starting it. You will need a jump cord and a jump starter or another car for this method. Attach the minus cord to the plus and attach the plus cord to the minus. Then have the working car press on the throttle very lightly in place. Meanwhile, try to start your car. That is how you jump start a car. Keep in mind that this method doesn't work cars that run on electricity and never try to jump start a battery with a crack or a leak.

Every brand new car comes with a spare tire and just enough tools. Even a tiny car like a Honda Civic comes with a spare tire underneath the trunk, and basic tools are usually hidden underneath one of the back seats. Locate where your car has the spare tires and tools. Then start by loosening the nuts of the tire that you want to take off. Then use the floor jack to lift up the car just enough for the tire to lift up. Now unscrew the nuts and bolts and take off the tire and replace it with a new one.
