It allows for flexibility but still provides a structured pacing and activity component that will take the guess work out for teachers and allow for opportunities to check for understandings. Also, having a materials list available for each lesson will save time.

What I am most excited about with Bluebonnet learning is that is based on best practice, is rigorous and aligned to the TEKS and STAAR. I think teachers will be most excited about not having to search for materials. There are several components within the lesson overview that I think teachers will appreciate - the connection to prior and future learning as well as the pacing guide. I think coaches will be able to offer more support to teachers because they can work with teachers on utilizing best practice to deliver the lessons.

The balance of conceptual and procedural is evident throughout the Develop and Demonstrate portions of the lesson. The coherence is sprinkled through out the lesson and highlighted in the getting started section. The depth of key concepts is heavily embedded throughout the lesson, and productive struggle is evident during the Develop and Demonstrate sections.

Math RBIS is layered throughout the lesson, in all three core components. During the lesson students and teacher use the same clear, concise, connected to develop the understanding of the lesson. The highlight for me is the emphasis on the conceptual understanding being built along side the procedural fluency which lends it self to the other 3 RBIS components.

I think engaging teachers in the same cycle of engage, develop, and demonstrate (model lesson or professional learning) so they can experience how the understanding is built/layered throughout the lesson. It's important for the teachers to understand the purpose of each section and what students should be expected to show/know at that point in the lesson. Making this clear during coaching/co-planning will really help with effective execution.
