Tadabbur Surah Al Fatihah

BENEFIT SURAH AL-FATIHAH

Surah Al-Fatihah is a cure

By Allah’s will, reciting Surah Al-Fatihah can cure illnesses. This is based on a narration by Abu Sa’id al-Khudri r.a. He reported that some of the companions went on a journey and landed at a place where a woman came to them and asked for help because their chief was bitten by a scorpion. So one of the companions recited Surah Al-Fatihah, and the chief then regained his health. The incident was reported to the Prophet s.a.w. because they were unsure whether they could accept the reward from Ruqyah (a type of spiritual healing). He s.a.w. then said:

مَا كَانَ يُدْرِيهِ أَنَّهَا رُقْيَةٌ اقْسِمُوا وَاضْرِبُوا لِي بِسَهْمٍ مَعَكُمْ

How did you come to know that this (Sura al-Fatihah) could be used as a Ruqyah? So distribute them (amongst those who had been present there with him) and allocate a share of mine also.

(Sahih Muslim)

The Hadith above indicates that Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. approved the act of Ruqyah. This is why this Surah is also called syifa’ or cure.

Surah Al-Fatihah is a light from the Heavens

Ibn ‘Abbas r.a. reported that upon hearing a sound above him, Jibril a.s. said to Prophet Muhammad s.a.w:

‏ "‏هذا باب من السماء فتح اليوم ولم يفتح قط إلا اليوم"، فنزل منه ملك فقال‏:‏ هذا ملك نزل إلى الأرض لم ينزل قط إلا اليوم، فسلم وقال‏:‏ أبشر بنورين أوتيتهما، لم يؤتهما نبي قبلك‏:‏ فاتحة الكتاب، وخواتيم سورة البقرة، لن تقرأ بحرف منها إلا أعطيته‏.

“This is a gate which has been opened in the Heavens today. It was never opened before." Then an angel descended through it, he said: "This is an angel who has come down to earth. He never came down before." He sent greetings and said: "Rejoice with two lights given to you. Such lights were not given to any Prophet before you. These (lights) are: Fatihah-til-Kitab (Surah Al-Fatihah), and the concluding Ayat of Surat Al-Baqarah. You will never recite a word from them without being given the blessings it contains."

(Sahih Muslim)

Allah s.w.t. responds to every line of Surah Al-Fatihah

In a Hadith Qudsi, one of the Prophet's companions, Abu Huraira r.a. had heard the Rasulullah s.a.w. declared that Allah the Exalted had said:

I have divided the prayer into two halves between Me and My servant, and My servant will receive what he asks.

When the servant says: Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the universe, Allah the Most High says: My servant has praised Me.

And when he (the servant) says: The Most Compassionate, the Merciful, Allah the Most High says: My servant has lauded Me.

And when he (the servant) says: Master of the Day of judgement, He remarks: My servant has glorified Me. and sometimes He would say: My servant entrusted (his affairs) to Me.

And when he (the worshipper) says: You (alone) we worship and You (alone) we ask help, He (Allah) says: This is between Me and My servant, and My servant will receive what he asks for.

Then, when he (the worshipper) says: Guide us along the Straight Path. The Path of those You have blessed—not those You are displeased with, or those who are astray, He (Allah) says: This is for My servant, and My servant will receive what he asks for.

(Sahih Al-Muslim)

PILLARS OF FAITH

The six fundamental beliefs in Islam that must be accepted and believed by every Muslim. These six core beliefs are faith in Allah, faith in Angels, faith in the Scriptures, faith in the Prophets, and faith in the Day of Judgment.

These Pillars of Faith form the foundation of Islamic creed, outlining a Muslim’s understanding and belief in the principal concepts of Islam, which influence their way of life, thoughts, and behavior.

BELIEF IN ALLAH

Belief in Allah is the first pillar of the Pillars of Faith. The concept of monotheism (Tawhid) is fundamental to believing in Allah. Tawhid means recognizing Allah as the One and Only God, the Most Merciful and Most Compassionate.

The Concept of Tawhid

Tawhid can be divided into three categories:

-Tawhid Rububiyah

-Tawhid Uluhiyah

-Tawhid Asma’ wa Sifat.

Tawhid Rububiyah means recognizing Allah as the Creator of the universe and all creatures within it.

Tawhid Uluhiyah refers to acknowledging Allah as the only God worthy of worship.

Tawhid Asma’ wa Sifat means believing that Allah has the most perfect names and attributes.

Attributes of Allah

Allah possesses perfect and unlimited attributes. Some of the attributes mentioned in the Quran include the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate, the All-Knowing, the All-Powerful, the All-Rich, and the Most Pure.

Allah also has 99 names found in the Quran and Hadith.

A Muslim must believe and have faith that Allah exists as the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. Allah also possesses perfect and unlimited attributes. By believing and having faith in Allah, a Muslim will find peace and happiness in life.

BELIEF IN ANGELS

In the Pillars of Faith, belief in angels is the second pillar that every Muslim must believe in. Angels are creations of Allah made from light, who possess obedience and submission to Allah. Here are some important points about angels in Islam.

THE ROLE OF ANGELS

Angels play an important role in human life. They are messengers of Allah who carry out His commands. Angels also act as guardians of heaven and hell and assist humans in their daily lives.

Angels also play significant roles in Islamic history.

For example, Angel Jibril is the one who delivered revelations from Allah SWT to Prophet Muhammad SAW. Angel Israfil is responsible for blowing the trumpet on the Day of Judgment, while Angel Malik oversees Hell.

Major Angels in Islam

In Islam, there are ten major angels mentioned in the scriptures. They are Jibril, Mikail, Israfil, Malik, Munkar, Nakir, Ridhwan, Raqib, Atid, and Izrail.

Here are some details about these angels:

•	Angel Jibril: tasked with delivering revelations from Allah SWT to the prophets.

•	Angel Mikail: responsible for managing sustenance and weather.

•	Angel Israfil: responsible for blowing the trumpet on the Day of Judgment.

- Angel Malik: oversees Hell.

•	Angels Munkar and Nakir: responsible for questioning in the grave.

•	Angel Ridhwan: guards the gates of heaven

•	Angels Raqib and Atid: record human deeds.

•	Angel Izrail: takes the soul at the time of death.

We can refer to Surah Al-Infitar 10-12, which states that angels are always with us and they know all the deeds that we do.

BELIEF IN SCRIPTURES

It refers to the full belief and acknowledgment that the scriptures revealed by Allah SWT are the true words of Allah SWT, and all their contents are true, just, and fair. There are four scriptures that must be known:

°The Torah

-to Prophet Musa AS

°The Zabur

-revealed to Prophet Dawud AS

°The Injil

-revealed to Prophet Isa AS *The Quran*

-revealed to Prophet Muhammad SAW.

In addition to these scriptures, Allah SWT also revealed scrolls (Suhuf) to Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) AS and Prophet Musa AS. All the laws contained in the Quran are obligatory for Muslims to follow. If there is a contradiction between other scriptures and Islamic Sharia, they cannot be practiced.

Recent years have seen severe heatwaves, floods, and wildfires, causing destruction to homes, loss of lives, and economic instability. These environmental crises highlight the urgent need for global action to protect both people and the planet.

The issue of climate change is directly linked to multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

1. SDG 13: Climate Action – This goal calls for immediate action to combat climate change and its impacts. Governments must enforce stricter environmental policies, invest in renewable energy, and promote sustainable practices to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

2. SDG 2: Zero Hunger – Climate change affects food security by causing droughts and floods that damage crops, leading to food shortages and malnutrition. Sustainable farming techniques and climate-resilient crops are essential to address this issue.

3. SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being – The increase in extreme heat, poor air quality, and vector-borne diseases due to climate change poses serious health risks. Improving healthcare systems and implementing preventive measures can help reduce these impacts.

4. SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities – Rising sea levels and natural disasters threaten urban populations. Cities must adopt sustainable infrastructure, disaster preparedness plans, and green initiatives to ensure long-term resilience.

The COVID-19 pandemic has already demonstrated how unprepared the world can be for global crises. Similarly, climate change requires urgent global cooperation. Governments, businesses, and individuals must take responsibility by adopting sustainable lifestyles, reducing carbon footprints, and supporting policies that protect the environment
