The trails offered profit to whoever crossed them, there was gold that came with the Louisiana Purchase. Lots of Gold, after all the Louisiana Purchase has doubled the size or the U.S., yet lots of Native American tribes lived there. So naturally the white greedy men wanted to kick them out of their home.

Land speculators, which are people that buy huge areas of land and hope it will increase it's value and they can make profit, definitely wanted lot's of land that followed the trails or were on the trails. They also offered escape for people who owed money, slaves, or for people who just wanted to find jobs. Specifically The Santa Fe Trail had eager Mexican people eager for new merchandise. Yet, the trail was dangerous because it was an 800-mile trail and people ran out of water often because it was in a desert. The Oregon Trail became very popular due to rumors of it and many people became very tempted to go; later on 1,000 people made the 2,000 mile trip and the next year twice as many went. The trail was also dangerous though, but they were dangers on any trail and not certain diseases. The Mormon Trail followed the Oregon trail, but the Mormon trail was more about freedom of religion for those people that were Mormon. Lot's of people hated and despised them, and even killed some of them.
