I agree that Japan was forced to go to war as they needed resources and raw materials. The US was also very racist to all asians including the Japanese, and the Japanese felt that they deserved racial equality and recognition as a major power with a military that equaled with the european powers. After being disrespected by the US, Japan felt that they needed to stand up for themselves and retaliate against the racist americans

I agree that Japan was forced to go to war. Japan had very limited resources and needed more to support the growing population of Japan from 45 000 000 in 1900 to 64 000 000 in 1930, thus needing to invade other states for more space, resources, and for survival, therefore Japan was forced to go to war.

However, I disagree with the statement that Japan was forced to wage war in the Asia Pacific as the Japanese military has pushed for war and they were not forced into it. After the US embargo in the 1930s, the Japanese felt the need to retaliate and brought it about themselves to go to war with the US by attacking Pearl Harbour in Hawaii. During Japan's expansionist policy in the 1930s, there was a rise of militarism, The Japanese supported the military to go to war as they wanted equality and recognition from the western powers. Thus, when Japan attacked Pearl Harbour, the Japanese had supported the attack and they wanted to go to war. Therefore, I disagree that Japan was forced to go to war, as they had brought it about themselves

i agree that japan was forced to go to war as they felt disrespected and have to retaliate to the US. the racial segregation against japan by the US caused the citizens to want the government to fight for their rights but they didnt go to war. in the washington naval conference...the ratio of naval strength of japan was less than that of the british and US and that they needed to reduce their naval strength...thats why they were disrespected. in the paris peace conference...japan demanded for racial equality but it was rejected so thus...japan had to go to war to get the due respect they want and need from british and USA

Mannan, i agree that Japan was forced to wage war in the Asia Pacific. This is because The Japanese believe that their nation is superior to all others and that it has a special mission to dominate and rule the rest of mankind. The Japanese armed forces enjoy a special position that gives them practical control of the government.Japan is located at the center of the rich Asiatic-Pacific area and had the strongest and most successful army and navy in Asia. The Japanese were dissatisfied with their economic condition. The working classes had a low standard of living, and big business demanded more raw materials and more markets which could be exploited without meeting European and American competition. Japan was less rich in resources than the United States, Great Britain, and the USSR. Also, high tariffs in the United States and other countries barred Japanese goods from some of the world markets. On top of that the US was also showing lots of signs of racism towards not only Japanese but also all Asians for example their Chinese exclusion act which banned all Chinese from coming to the US. This caused Japanese to have a reason to wage for against US not only for the Chinese but for the racism that US was expressing on Japan as well as wage war in the Asia pacific and yes in a way they were forced to wage war.

I agree to a certain extend that Japan was forced to wage war in the Asia Pacific.USA had publicly sided with China. The US foreign policy change from a more isolationist stance to a more active stance hence contributed to the outbreak of WW2 in the Asia Pacific as it damaged Japan’s economy further due to Japan’s Military need for scrap iron, steel and fuel and created and urgent need for Japan to invade the rest of Asia to solve its economic problem. This shows that Japan was forced to go to war as at that point of time,Japan was facing great depression and economic crisis while their land was being overcrowded due to the overpopulation and urgent need for more land and more resources for the japanese’s survival. Therefore,i agree to a certain extend that Japan was forced to wage a war in the Asia Pacific for more resources and land for the people of Japan

I agree that Japan was forced to wage war because Japan's relation with the USA was worsening. The USA was a rising power in the Asia Pacific region and did not consider Japan to be equal amongst the Western Powers. The USA was racist towards Japan. This led to much tension and conflict between the two powers. Racial segregation and discrimination was common in American society and American discrimination against the Japanese contributed towards the tense relations between the USA and Japan. There was no equality in America. America passed laws to protect their economic interests and to exclude the Chinese, Korean and Japanese immigrants to prevent them from competing for jobs. The Japanese were greatly offended by this racial discrimination as they wanted to be considered as an equal amongst the Western powers. Therefore, Japan felt the need to go to war.

Japan wanted to be seen as an equal to the Western powers which had built empires and controlled large territories. Japan saw that in order to be seen as an equal to Western powers, it needed its own empire. This implies that Japan had a choice as it wanted to establish a sphere of influence in order to be seen as an equal to the other Western powers and their ambition was what led them to war.

The Japanese and American government did not want conflict and however faced pressurr from thr citizens to act against the other.

Their ambition to establish itself in Asia and Europe led to its relation with other nations including USA to worsen. For example is their conflict with Russia. When the Russians established an influence in the North Eastern China the Japanese took this as a security threat to its interest and influence in Korea. Japan tried to reach a settlement with Russia but Russian rejected it. Japan then declared war on Russia. Also, their honor-based samurai code shaped the mindset of the Japanese in how they reacted to threats of war and relations with other nations. Their traditions and ego led them to wage war in the Asia Pacific. They chose to do it. It wasn't necessary. The mindset of theirs led their relation with other nations worsen. They did not have to go to war with Russia or USA but they still did.

I agree that Japan was forced to wage war in the Asia Pacific. As USA had imposed trade embargo on Japan, it affected Japan economically since Japan did not have enough resources such as oil. Japan were also facing an increase population in their country, the demand for housing, goods and products have also increased. This caused Japan to invade more territories as more territories meant access to resources and spaces for citizens, thus in order to replenish for the lack of resources and accommodate spaces for the increasing population, Japan was forced to wage war in the Asia Pacific.

I disagree that Japan was forged to go to war in the Asia Pacific. Japan had an alliance with Britain. Britain was receptive to the rise of Japan. In 1902, Britain signed an alliance with Japan called the Anglo-Japanese Alliance. The basis of the alliance was mutual recognition of British and Japanese interests in China. The treaty was renewed in 1905. Britain recognised Japan's right to defend Korra, and Japan recognised Britain's right to defend India. With the Anglo-Japanese Alliance, Britain and Japan would have good relations with each other and not cause any conflicts. Japan would be able to gain more power in a postive way. Since Britain recognised Japan, the Japanese would be satisfied with the British.

They felt that the US were in the wrong as they made hateful comments to Japan. But this does not mean that they needed to take action. Instead they chose to start the war. They should have just not take any action. However maybe because Japan was struggling to establish itself and gain equality with the western powers, their ego led them to start a war. Combining with what US had said about Japan. The Japan military government pushed for Japan to go to war as it provided military gains.

Japan expansionist policy wanted to expand itself in Asia and Europe. They wanted recognition and equality. They also needed resources. Japan was in control of Korea and Manchuria. They want to make their empire bigger. There was an overpopulation in Japan so they needed more land. The rise of militarism fueled Japan's expansionist ambitions and aggressive attitudes in its relations with other countries. Therefore, if Japan expand itself more they overcome those challenges. Thus, Japan ambitions was the cause of waging the war.

The japanese had an ambition to establish itself in asia and europe, as they wanted to be considered as an equal amongst the western powers who had built empires and were in control of large territories. The japanese had much greed amongst themselves as they had already taken control of countries such as China, Korea and Taiwan, but they wouldn’t stop until they has full control of the whole of china, thus they invaded Manchuria. The japanese invaded countries to help deal with their overpopulation, as well as to help with their lack of resources. The success of the Japanese expansion had encouraged plans for the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere, where japan would be in full control of the whole of southeast asia as well as east asia. They wanted to get rid of the european colonial powers and replace them with people that were loyal to japan. In conclusion, i feel that the japanese werent forced to wage war as they wanted to dominate the whole of southeast asia to satisfy their greed.

i agree that japan was forced to go to wage. for example, japan decided to carry out an expansionist policy to acquire resources. japan had limited resources and had to rely on trade. however, aft the great depression, japan found it difficult to obtain raw materials. thus, they took control of territories near them, such as taiwan, korea and manchuria. another reason for its decision to carry out an expansionist policy was because of the rise of militarism in japanese political leadership. this was due to their desire for equality and recognition amongst world powers. another example is japan’s overpopulation. as their population increased, the demand of housing, goods and products also increased. this contributed to japan’s growing expansionist ambitions. this was bc if japan occupied more territories, they cld hv access to more resources and space for their citizens. another example is japan’s economic crisis. this was due to the rapid population increase and shortage of land for farming. in addition, japan was also affected by the great depression. this affected their economy significantly and resulted in an economic depression. thus, i agree that japan was forced to go to war.
