(6ExCEL points)
TEEN PREGNANCY: LEGALIZATION OF CONTRACEPTIVES TO MINORS
Martina Arellano
Bianca Gutierrez
Arianna Lee
Chynna Lim
Bea Naldo
Alexa Perez

FULFILLING CHARACTERISTICS
1. Debatable
This topic is debatable because most of the parents and elderly say it is still too young for a minor to be sexually active. Although this is very true, not a lot of teens follow this; thus, teen pregnancy. Though, we believe that it would be a safer way if they had this option.
2. Manageable
There are a lot of current news articles about teenagers having intercourse without using of contraceptives and parental consent. There are also several statistics online about unintended pregnancy of the youth, such as the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBS) that updates regularly. Many professional doctors and hospitals all around the world claim that 82% of minors under the age of 16 get accidentally pregnant because of not using contraceptives, and these doctors state the effects of these pregnancies, such as diseases. Several countries and states do not impose laws on the legalization of contraceptives for minors up to this day.
3. Relevant
Using of condoms and contraceptives to minors, ages 14 and above, should be legalised as there is a continuing growth of population among teen mothers. It it is relevant because the number of people influenced and tempted nowadays are increasing. At such an age, it is better to be safe as one's decision can actually affect your entire future and plans.
4. Focused
This topic is focused because it specifically focuses on the use of contraceptives to minors. It is not that flexible into topics like people who want to choose to avert pregnancy or save a life of a potential child, or the pregnancies for those who don't have that much money. This topic specifically focuses on sexually dynamic youngsters who want to approach condoms, birth control pills, or an intrauterine gadget.
5. Interesting
This topic is interesting because its objective is to stop or to prevent teen pregnancy which our own generation has a lot to say about. Accidental pregnancy is a very popular subject among teens, and it is quite useful for the youth to know more about their problem. This is a very unspoken topic among minors, it would be very interesting for them to learn something new and understand the concept of contraception.

SOURCES:
https://www.cdc.gov/healthyyouth/data/yrbs/index.htm , https://www.reuters.com/article/us-teens-condoms/condoms-should-be-more-available-to-teens-doctors-say-idUSBRE99R03N20131028 , http://www.bbc.com/news/health-42655079
