Bell Hooks' thinking seems to relate to my own ideology. I understand her key notes and the way language has affected her growing up. The most interesting thing would be where she describes her ordeal working around predominantly white people.

Boroditsky’s argument around the representation of people who may have English as an additional language forms a filter around societies acceptance towards them. Representation for me was also an important aspect, during my time at school I was always reminded that if you spoke ‘good’ English you would always be accepted within a predominantly English-speaking society. Even in today's equality driven Britain, your English language skills can determine your role, job and status in society.

“I never hear white authors get asked, do you worry about how you represent white people?”
This one quote plays a big role in my life as a young Muslim woman. We are always made to feel as though we should apologies because of the actions other Muslims may carry out.
Junot expresses a valid point as it always tends to be POC who reap the negativity from other POC's actions.

Zadie Smith's novel 'white teeth' has a very interesting plot line. She has a variety of ethnic backgrounds mentioned throughout and each character has an identity. This was something that appealed to me as all characters within the book who would in an ideal world have a stereotypical role, played a vital part in the story line.

Language has always been a close aspect to my life. Growing up with immigrant grandparents who barely spoke a word of English made me feel embarrassed as I did not understand why my white peers grandparents spoke fluent English. Once I had grown up I understood that I was uneducated in the eyes of my grandparents as I did not know my mother tongue, yet to me; they were uneducated because they did not know English.
The representation behind language is a major issue in our society, from either side of the ethnic scale you can be perceived as uneducated.

The white curriculum represents the struggle POC have to go through to be heard. We are always taught about how the British ruled over many countries, are we ever taught about the effects these had on the countries themselves?
The white curriculum teaches us the history of white people. British values teach us to respect and value all cultures and beliefs. Why are we still being taught about the many wives of Henry the 8th for months on end yet the slave trade is only covered within one lesson. How is this fair?

Bourdieu's theory of cultural deprivation outlines how those from an upper class are treated differently to those from a lower class background. The cultural capital difference is analysed by Bourdieu as a 'defining' moment due to the difference in thought by societies education system.
