Christ the Redeemer was built in 1931 to symbolize the protection and peace of the people in Rio de Janeiro. It’s carved of a combination of soapstone and concrete. It sits upon Corcovado mountain and took 9 years to complete! The statue was funded mostly by donation from the people, and you can see it as a tourist attraction to this day in Peru.
