That being said, I want to emphasize that our classroom will be based around this constructivist approach. I hope to build an inclusive environment where children (and grown-ups) are encouraged to bring their own culture, experiences, and ideas into the classroom. I intend to make lessons as hands-on as possible, with group work, projects, and hands-on activities. I believe that knowledge is not the same for everyone; We interpret what we learn in different ways based upon our own experiences and culture. I intend to help each child achieve their academic goals. On the first day, we will build a guideline poster as to how they feel their classroom environment should be, and I will bring the made-up poster the next day; Those will be our classroom "rules". After that, The children will write down their goal for the quarter (i.e I want to work on my reading skills and get an A). Throughout the quarter and at the end, we will check for progress. This way, students will have an internal sense of goal setting. Additionally, I will always provide feedback to each individual student on how to improve, and enforce what they did "correctly".
As a class, we will have a treasure box. Each table group will have a jar that I will put tokens in for every time that table does something that is expected (like lining up quietly). I think children respond better to positive feedback. Therefore, rules will be stated on our poster in a positive manner. For example, instead of saying "Don't run" our poster will say "always walk". This way, the poster will serve as a reminder to our children of the classroom rules and environment. When a child forgets one of the rules, they will be asked to look at the poster, and I will ask them, or remind them, which one they need to work on. This way, there is ongoing structure in the classroom. My goal is to make our classroom inclusive, and for everyone to feel safe, valued, and respected. 
I want to emphasize the importance of routine in the classroom. I will have an established routine for the day, and it will be listed on a poster in the classroom. That way, students can keep track of what they are going to do next. My goal is to help the children grow into the best that they can be. School does not stop at academics; children learn social skills, experience new things, people, and cultures; They learn new ways of looking at things; academics is just a small part of learning! My goal is to help each child wonder, use their previous knowledge to build new knowledge, and never stop learning. If they understand the importance of learning, and love to learn, then I will consider my goal met. As their teacher, I am just a guide in their journey of learning. The classroom we build together will be an open door to the continuance of their learning and success.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary education with an emphasis in English as a Second Language. I was born and raised in Bisbee, AZ, but have been a Tucson resident for 4 years.
