Woman to the right!” Elie is unable to forget then because that moment is one of the last, if not the last, time he saw his mom and sisters. Elie and his dad were scared and they needed each other to feel grounded or like the have something their that they know. They are in a new place and are being threatened, they needed something they recognized and that was each other.

Elie finds it hard to pray because he almost feels cursed or in some sort of nightmare because he was sent to Auschwitz’s. Only to be worked to be killed off eventually with a slow horrible death. He finds it hard to pray because he is shaken by the situation in which he is in here he is to kill himself by walking into flames. He finds it hard to pray because he feels as if God is no longer with him due to the situation he’s going through. He says on page 34 “Never shall I forget those moments that murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to ashes.” (Wiesel 34). I feel as if when he says this, it is some sort of loss of hope because he repeats himself 6 times. He feels abandoned by his God and rethinks his religion.
