Why this spot? Daybreak?

Daybreak for about a decade has had a very prestigious feel, tone and if you were not "demure", or culturally different, if by appearance or speech, you were out of place. If someone was to say they lived in Daybreak at the time, it meant they had a lot of nice things, lived in a big home and were very wealthily. The norm of what is has been has changed. It went from being one way to them being the home of hoting all the latest food trucks, concerts in the center plaza with a very welcoming feel. The area is no longer quite, friendly or "free spirited". Daybreak is like any other city. It has growth, people everywhere, those sleeping in the grass, which in turn takes out, the safety fator and now making it be full of a bit of fear on what the "New Daybreak" will be. This is an area that I go to everyday for work. I have workedi n this area for 9 years. I have seen the change the area has had and I am taken back by certain things that are coming , what they will bring, the amounts of people and what they have brought now. I worry that the place will out grow itself and question, where will it all go? I walked this the other day and realized that my safe work place was gone. I want to share some of the concerns and the good as well. The new normal is always something new. I have come into work noticing a individual sleepping on the patio, someone trying to enter a secured building, an alarm going off, random people approaching asking for money and many incidents of those using the outside or sidewalk as their restroom.

When you drive around Daybreak one can be taken back by the beautiful homes, townhomes, apartments and basically every square inch being inidated with construction. Looking at the over head map it is crazy to see how much growth is coming yet not shwoing. One of the BIG attractions that is coming to Daybreak, is that it will now be the home to the the Bee's. The Bee's are our local baseball team but they will now be in Daybreak. They are smack in the middle of houses. I wonder where those attending thos games will park. The area is not looking big enogh to hold all the people. The only hight light for me is that my desk faaces this, so I hope ti see some fireworks. It is set to be completed by April 2025 to start the season. There was a fire in the construction site this past week and burned one side but didn't effect structure. This will bring those die hard baseball fans and even create new ones, The space is becoming full.

Transportation and Traffic

Utah has a good public transportation system, called TRAX and it can be easy to get to, easy to follow and it can go quite a few places . Most people use it for work, school, sporting events, concerts and for anything else it is needed for., where either parking is not avalible or too expensive. This particular TRAX station, known as the Daybreak stop is adjent to the field where the statuim is being built. Then across on the other side of the street is the South Jordan Healh Center, a school and more townhomes. The stop is known as the RED line, which starts and ends at this station. It lconveintly starts and ends at the Main U of U Hospial. With that there are 26, including those two along the way. Potentially there could be quite a few people coming this way. The cconcern with all this will be the continually growth that will stretch the traffic even more. If you are in the area at anytime, you can plan on not being able tp park, get a green light and be driving with those that know how to use a round about. Traffic is already pushing it, If school has let out you can expect to wait at the crosswalk by the Trax station and then on the other side wait for the light to turn green, These cause concerns. There have been occassions where you see the same people hanging around since they have no place to go. It will be a new normal one the Stadium is done.

Safety

With the continaual growth there are safety concerns. At any given time of day this spot can be buzzing with people getting on and off the TRAX and making there way to the field, the Health Center, dumping their rash in the field (cars come and do it alot) or find a place to sleep. To give an idea the fieldd that sits ihe middle of photo 2, has a ditch in the middle. If you walk through all the weeds, you will notice looking down therer are little homes that have been created. Since I was alone this day I was not going to brave out there but I have ahd situatiibs where there have been concerns and Security and or local law enforceent were called. With new technology there are now , E-Scooters all around Daybreak. You can rent them and instead of walking use those. The concern there is those riding them assume you will stop and or see them coming or know they are there but in all honesty I have almost one and almost hit children that run out in the street, daybreak is full of crosswalks but they are faded. Thei could be solved with a new paint job and education to everyone on how to use them is helpful. Safety needs to be evalutaed to find better solutions with all the homes that have alot of people coming and going. The growth will be something to watch but safety should come first.

One would think this would be an easy neighborhood to explore. I found myself being overwhelmed with how much it has changed and how it will change going forward. I have had a front row seat and still do to see it all. Daybreak is beautiful and has lot of space. I can only imagine what it all will bring. More to come over the course of the next couple months.
