An Endless Supply of Content That'll Keep Any Fan Content by Venezia Guzman

An endless inventory of music spreads out along the growth of their creators. As they move from east to west and across oceans their music gains a different feel either on purpose or by accident. Fans and collectivist alike can spot these differences, but in recent times this endless supply has been limited by multiple factors mostly lying in the music industry itself.

"When we sense that a musician understands music as a process without a fixed outcome, our ears notice two things: that we may not best understand his work in one song, one album, or even one period, and also that he probably believes his work may not be best understood in one song, one album, or even one period. At that point, we build our own mission as listeners. We put him in context, deciding that we only have limited room for him, or we totally submit.

It’s the opposite of the hunger you may feel when the musician knows he’s got a powerful thing and only gives you a little, leaving you hungry. It’s the principle of the musician giving you a seemingly endless supply while also imparting to you the understanding that there is always more." (Ratliff 84)

I never really listened to a lot of music growing up so I'm only just discovering everything that goes into the production, categorization, and preservation of music. I know that Ratliff puts a lot of examples to act as an explanation of the point he's trying to make in each chapter, but I still don't get it most of the time. I kinda got what he was talking about with the pop industry and Mariah Carey, but the collection thing is just something that can't understand. The reason might be because I don't really collect music myself or seek out certain musicians, I'm not close to the music world.

The article goes into more detail, but it's clear that Prince did everything in his power to meet his goal of having the most titles. Here's a picture of his famed music vault!
