Peach Pit is an indie-pop band, whose music has been described as "like a close friend telling you a story" (Kieran, 2020), which speaks to me most about their music. Their unique and authentic lyrics about relationships, family, partying, and regrets are elevated through the way the band performs together, especially with the lead guitarist (Chris Vanderkooy) distinctive style that evolves through each of their records, along with their ever-evolving repertoire of new instruments they use for their songs.

Peach Pit is an inspiration to me, in the way their music invokes such a warm feeling, and how each member can convey that through their respective instruments.

Paramore is a American rock band that have evolved drastically since their official formation in 2004, the main reason they are a major inspiration to me is how each album differs from one another, both with the experiences the band and lead singer Hayley Williams have had to the shifts in genres - from pop punk on 'Riot!' to synth pop on 'After Laughter'.

As the band went through changes through the years, lead singer Hayley Williams has always been the vocal powerhouse that has resonated with me with my somewhat recent listening.

Hayley has been vocal about the bands' love of Bloc Party and how they've influenced their album "This is Why" (Brodksy, 2022). Williams stated that "the groups "urgency" acted as a driving force when the band started discussing music again". The urgency of Paramore's latest album is evident when listening through, Williams went on further to compliment Bloc Party's music calling it "unique and so dynamic". Hayley also performed with lead singer Kele Okereke in 2023, performing a cover of a Bloc Party song (Wilson-Taylor, 2023).

But such an important band to Paramore" (Moore, 2022). Paramore's drummer, Zac Farro, was even gifted a drum kit owned by Foo Fighters member Taylor Hawkins, stating the importance that Hawkins had on the Foo Fighters, and highlighting the connection between a drummer and their band.

Williams also joined Foo Fighters on stage to perform "My Hero" in 2023 (Jrodconcerts Media, 2023).

In an interview for an upcoming documentary on Failure, Hayley Williams praised the band "I had never really heard anything like that and it changed how I thought about music. It just made me more than ever want to be in a band". Paramore even covered Failure's song 'Stuck on You', released on their debut EP, and Hayley has done an acoustic cover of Failure's 'The Nurse Who Loved Me' in 2021. It's clear that Failure has been influencing Paramore since the very beginning, and continues to do so as they grow

(Failure Band, 2022).

Mac DeMarco helped dictate the type of music that Peach Pit played, describing it as "music that we really liked" (Saunders, 2023), the band admired DeMarco's ability to be a rock and roll front man, but also didn't take himself too seriously. Peach Pit has described their music as 'chewed bubblegum pop', and in an interview explained that they copied Mac DeMarco, as he called his music 'jizz jazz' (Anindita, 2018). It's evident that Peach Pit has adopted DeMarco's adolescent feeling sound (Get to Know… Peach Pit, 2020)), and possibly pulling influence from his more sad and grunge-like lyrics.

All members of Peach Pit have been fans of The Beatles their whole lives (Evans, 2022), and have been influenced by individual works of members of The Beatles. Their latest album 'From 2 to 3' was inspired by music of the 60's and 70's , with it starting with Paul McCartney's album 'Ram' (Sgherri, 2022) - becoming obsessed with the record. They loved fact that songs were recorded live in those days, and the fact there can be mistakes in songs. In this interview, lead singer Neil Smith said he wanted them to sound like they were playing live, using lots of natural instrument sounds, and not many effects because that's what they like best - playing live.

Peach Pit has been influenced by multi-instrumentalist indie singer Andy Shauf, citing his lyrical content and depth when the band was just beginning (Get to Know… Peach Pit, 2020). As mentioned in an earlier section, the lyrics of Peach Pit songs can be described as "a friend telling you a story", and lead singer Neil Smith described that Andy's narrative storytelling in his songs was an inspiration for the band to include their personal stories into their music (Anindita, 2018). This is evident in songs such as; "Tommy's Party", "Drop the Guillotine", and "Seventeen."
