I am reading the book Ship Breaker which is a science fiction book. It if sci-fi because it takes place in the future and has characters that are half man and half dog. 

Summary: Nita wanted to get back to her father. So, her and Nailer traveled to Orleans II, but someone caught Nita. So, Nailer convinced someone to help get Nita back. Then, they set sail to try to find her. 

My favorite part of the book so far is when they are hiding with Nita before they travel to the Orleans II because, even though it isn’t super action packed, you get to see the characters build relationships and how they interact with each other. 

Rating: I would rate my book 3/5 stars because it is somewhat action packed, but there are also some boring parts, and I don’t particularly like the plot.

The gender of the book, Lions Of Genre: Little Rock is historical fiction because it takes place at the time of segregation and the story did not actually happen.

Summary: Lions of Little Rock by Kristin Levine is about a quiet girl named Marlee. As more African-American kids get integrated into the Little Rock, Arkansas schools, some older grades start to close. Marlee’s school stays open and in her new class, there is an African-American girl named Liz. Liz is not afraid to talk to anyone which takes a lot of guts being an African-American around those times. Liz and Marlee soon start to become friends and Marlee even talks a little bit to Liz. Will Marlee and Liz be able to stay together or will they be separated because of their race?

Theme: I think that the theme of the book is that skin color is nothing compared to kindness. I think that this is the theme because Liz is African American but she stands out for her personality and how nice she is to everyone not for her skin color.

Favorite Part: My favorite part so far is when Marlee lets Liz sit with her at lunch and Marlee actually talks to Liz. This is my favorite part because it shows that skin color really doesn’t matter because Liz stood out for being kind. Not her skin color.

Rating: So far, I would rate Lions of Little Rock a 4.5/5 because this is an amazing book and I can’t wait to read more of it.

Summary: Mr. Terupt’s class went to the carnival and were enjoying the rides and fun carnival games, when suddenly a crowd gathers around something. The crowd was surrounding Danielle’s grandmother. The ambulance came and took Danielle’s grandma to the hospital because her grandma had a heart attack. After that, Danielle tells her parents the secret that they were hiding from her.

Theme: You should always help people in need.

I think of this because Danielle’s grandma needs help and after the surgery Anna and her mom helped Danielle’s grandma feel better by making her do exercises.

My favorite part of the book is when they are having the boat contest because that part was pretty funny.

I would rate this book a 4.5 out of 5 because this book is very good, but some parts are sad.

The genre of Stay Alive is realistic fiction because a plane could crash like this but it is possible.

Summary: A small group of kids and two adults from a small TV were on there way to Alaska. Then the engine stopped leaving the plane to crash and also leaving the small group stranded next to a lake in a Alaskan forest. So they gathered al they could to make a shelter, get food, and make useful tools. Later on they were still alive but struggling the winter was getting colder and the food was running out. They need to be rescued or they are in trouble.

The theme of the book is, teamwork is always important especially in survival situations. That is the theme because their teamwork is what allows then to be successful in building a shelter and making up jobs.

My favorite part of the book was when the adult was supposed to be watching for a plane but he fell asleep when the plane passed. I thought that was funny because he had one job and he blew it.

I would rate the book a 4 out of 5 because every decision is crucial and if they mess up there in trouble.

Genre: Realistic fiction

Why: I think the genre of my book is realistic fiction because although the events are a little far-fetched, they could happen because there is no magic or anything like that, and it takes place in current times.

                                       

Theme: Even if one believes everyone will be happier if oneself lies about something greatly important, the truth may change someone's life for the better.

Why: I think my book has this theme because Ella lies about herself and pretends to be Maddy because she thinks everyone liked Maddy better, so she doesn’t want to let them down.  Later though, we find out that so many people, including her mom, dad, Josh, and Bailey liked Ella better.  Now all those people are sad because they think their favorite friend or daughter is dead.

Rating (1-5): 5

Why: I would rate The Secrets We Keep by Trisha Leaver a 5 because it is extremely well written.  The detail makes me feel like I am there, when the characters are sad I am sad, when the characters are happy I am happy.  The story is just amazing and it always keeps me at the edge of my seat.  It is difficult to put the book down when I am done reading for the night because I just need to know what happens next!  

Summary: Maddy and Ella Lawton are identical twins and seniors in high school.  Maddy is super popular, and Ella only has one friend, is super smart, and is totally okay with that.  One night, when Ella is driving Maddy home from a party, they get in a really bad accident and Maddy dies.  At the hospital, Ella’s memory is foggy and everyone believes she is Maddy, so she thinks she is Maddy too.  Later, when Ella’s memory comes back, she realizes she isn’t Maddy but doesn’t want to let everyone that loved Maddy down, so she pretends to be her.  Ella has to learn everything about her sister to play the part accurately.  Ella’s best friend figures out that she is not Maddy, but her boyfriend and parents and everyone else hasn’t figured it out yet.  Ella realizes though that her parents loved Ella more than she ever knew.  After going through everything in Maddy’s closet, Ella figures out that Maddy took bad pills while she was on the hockey team.  

Favorite part:  My favorite part was during “Ella’s” burial service because it actually was Maddy that was being buried.  It was super weird for Ella to see her own gravestone.  Also, it was nice to see that Ella wasn’t afraid to be mean to Maddy’s friends when they showed up at the service and they barely even knew Ella.

 

Genre: 

“The Book Thief” tells the story of a Liesel Meminger, a young girl turning 13 in 🤬 Germany. The story focuses on all the joys and sorrows of Liesel, her foster family, and Max, the Jewish man they hide from the Nazis. However while it takes place during a historical time period, “The Book Thief” is not all facts. Instead, the novel focuses on the Holocaust and World War II as told by Death, the narrator.

Summary:

“The Book Thief” is narrated by Death, who tells us the tragic story of Liesel Meminger. It begins in January 1939, and ten year old Liesel is traveling by train with her mother and her little brother Werner. Liesel and Werner are being taken to the small town of Molching, just outside of Munich, Germany, to live with foster parents Hans and Rosa Hubermann. However, Werner dies on the train of mysterious causes having to do with poverty, hunger, cold, and lack of medical treatment. Before Liesel arrives in Molching, she attends her brother's burial in a snowy graveyard. She then steals The Grave Digger's Handbook from the cemetery after it falls from a young grave diggers coat, the first of many times she would steal a book. The thing is though, Liesel can't read. Soon Liesel is reluctant to enter the Hubermann house on Himmel Street, but is coaxed by her new, kind, foster father, Hans, to whom she takes an immediate liking. She's not yet sure about her foster mom Rosa, though. Liesel begins school, but suffers because she doesn't know how to read yet. She also meets Rudy Steiner, who is soon to be her best friend (and soon to be her partner in book and food thievery). One night, Hans finds The Grave Digger's Handbook hidden in Liesel's mattress after her usual nightmare of seeing her brother dying on the train. This is what inspires him to begin teaching her to read. When Liesel learns to write, she begins composing letters to her mother, desperate to find her, but these letters go unanswered. Finally, we find out that her mother has disappeared. So when a book burning is organized to celebrate Adolf Hitler's birthday on April 20, 1940,  Liesel becomes aware of what it really means to be living in 🤬 Germany. She finds the mound of literature being burned fascinating but also disturbing. Now that she can read and write, she has come to see great value in books and words. When Liesel hears a 🤬 spokesman calling for death to communists as well as Jews, a light bulb goes off. The only thing she knows about her father is that he was accused of being a communist. She realizes that Hitler is likely behind her father's disappearance, her brother's death, and her mother's disappearance. When Hans confirms her suspicions after the book burning, Hitler becomes Liesel's sworn enemy. She soon learns that this is a dangerous conflict for a young girl in 🤬 Germany when Hans warns her against voicing her anti-Hitler opinions in public. This conflict helps drive Liesel to steal her second book, The Shoulder Shrug, from the burning pile of books. Turns out that Erik Vandenberg, a Jewish man, saved Hans's life during World War I, giving up his own life in the process. After the war, Hans visited Erik's wife and young son. Now after all that time, that son is twenty-two and is hiding from the Nazis. His name is Max, and Hans is his last hope for survival. Upon learning of his situation, Hans secretly helps arrange for Max's journey to Himmel Street. When the desperately starving and exhausted young man arrives, Hans and Rosa hide him in their home. At first, Liesel isn't sure what to think of Max, but they soon become fast friends. Meanwhile, Max's arrival and his suffering produce a change in Rosa, for the better. Liesel is amazed to see her courage and her softness. However, hiding a Jewish person in your home during World War II is one of the bravest and most frightening things a German person could do. It means a constant state of anxiety for all involved. For Max, it means extreme guilt for putting the lives of those he's come to love in danger. But, above all, it means friendship for the residents of the Hubermann home-a very complicated friendship. Liesel has also entered into a complicated almost-friendship with the mayor's wife, Ilsa Hermann. Ilsa saw Liesel steal the The Shoulder Shrug from the fire. She also pays Rosa to do her laundry. When Liesel comes to Ilsa's house on laundry visits, she invites Liesel into the library to read. When Ilsa has to stop using Rosa's services, Liesel, in rage, begins stealing books from her, though Ilsa doesn't mind. Everything changes in October of 1942 when a parade of Jews comes through Molching on the way to the nearby concentration camp entitled Dachau. Hans feels compelled to offer one of the Jewish prisoners a piece of bread and is whipped along with the prisoner by a 🤬 guard. Now Hans is desperately afraid the Nazis will search his house and find Max, so he sends Max away that very night. His house is never searched, and Hans scolds himself constantly, waiting to be punished for his mistake. One day, Liesel sees the 🤬 secret police on Himmel Street, and Hans thinks they are coming for him. Turns out in fact, they are coming for Rudy, who has recently shown himself to be a great student and athlete. The 🤬’s want to take Rudy to a special training school. However, his parents protest and essentially make a trade. So Rudy stays home, but his father, Alex Steiner, is forced into the military and has to leave home. Around this time, Hans is also forced to join, as punishment for giving the Jewish man bread. With Hans and Max gone, Liesel does her best to go on. She reads to the residents of Himmel Street in the bomb shelter during air raids, steals with Rudy, and helps Rosa. One night, Rosa shows her the book Max left for her, a book written on painted-over pages of Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf. It's called The Word Shaker and includes a story by the same name. In February 1943, just after Liesel's fourteenth birthday, Liesel and Rosa get word that Hans is coming home. He broke his leg in a bus accident, and his sergeant is transferring him back to Munich, and then, for a while life was calm. In August of 1943, Liesel sees Max again. He's marching through Molching to Dachau. She walks with him in the procession. Liesel learns that he was captured some six months earlier, about five months after he left the house on Himmel Street. The 🤬 guards didn’t like Liesel's courageous display, and Liesel and Max are both whipped. Rudy then stops Liesel from following Max any further and possibly saves her life. Soon after, Liesel decides to give up books and Ilsa Herman's library. Ilsa presents her with a blank book, encouraging her to read, and Liesel begins writing the story of her life, called The Book Thief. She writes in the basement, and she's doing just this when Himmel Street is bombed. Everybody she loves dies while they sleep. In despair over their deaths, Liesel drops her book, but it's picked up by Death. Since Liesel has nobody left, the police hold her, not sure what to do with her. Soon Ilsa Hermann arrives and takes her in for a time. Alex Steiner comes home soon after, and Liesel spends time with him. As the novel comes to an end, we learn that Liesel has died after living a long and happy life with a husband, kids, and grandkids. Then we learn Max survived the concentration camp, and he and Liesel reunited at the end of World War II. But, we don't learn what happens to Max after that. The novel ends with Death giving Liesel back her book, The Book Thief, as he's taking her soul away from her body far after Molching was bombed.

Theme:

Love is like a war, easy to start, difficult to stop, and never forgotten

Rating:

I would rate this book a five out of five because it is a very intriguing story full of suspense, keeping me on the edge of my seat the entire book. Also the author does a great job at expressing the love that Liesel felt for her new family, I was heartbroken when everything she knew and loved became ashes because of the bomb. The author really slows down the important parts and is really good at explaining her feelings. He also does a great job at describing certain things like the way Liesel acted when she lost everything in a matter of minutes. One of the main reason I like this book is because of the insight that Death gives on Liesel's life, interrupting every few pages.

When she dimes back the mayor’s wife knows that Liesel had stolen a book. But she doesn’t punish her for taking it without her permission, she allows Liesel in and shows her a room she thought she’d never see.

Favorite Part

My favorite part is when Liesel puts aside all her thoughts about this one kid she beat up for making fun of her and when she helps him when he needs it the most. (Not going to spoil) 

What do I rate my book?

9/10

Because as I’ve said many times, it contains words that are hard for the mind to understand and words that are too inappropriate for the mind. Though, it has those flaws it told me an amazing story that I’m not done with and can’t wait to finish.

          In this book, the main character, Yoko, has to leave her home in northern Korea because the Koreans didn’t want Japanese like Yoko living with them. However, the trip has proven to be very dangerous because of the many Korean scouts with guns ready to 🤬 along Yoko’s escape route. Yoko, her mother, and her sister somehow manage to get enough food to stay alive and get on a boat to Japan. Unfortunately, Yoko's Mother died because of shock that her own parents had died because of bombing. Yoko and her sister are now earning money in Japan, and going school. They are waiting for their brother, Hideyeo, to come home. I did not finish the book. 

          The theme of my book is that love will persist through difficult times. This is the theme because even through the hardships they faced, Yoko’s family helped each other and cared for each other. This shows that love is still there despite hardships. 
          Spoiler Alert!

          My favorite part of “So Far From the Bamboo Grove” was when Yoko and her mom and sister made it to Japan, because it made me feel relieved, although not for very long, that they made it to their destination.

          I rate this book a 4 out 5 stars because the book was very action packed, and makes you want to keep reading. It is also has powerful emotion throughout the book. The reason why you may want to choose another book is because it is overall pretty depressing and there are scarcely any happy moments. However, if you like books with action, survival, and danger in them, this book is for you.

I think this book is fantasy, because the when the protagonist takes a pill, her world complete changes, the pill is magic. In real life you can’t take a magic pill that can change your life, and other people’s. 

Scarlett, the main protagonist, comes down with a sinus infection. Her mother takes her to the doctor hopping he can help her get better before homecoming. Scarlett on the other hand doesn’t want to go to homecoming, because she had nobody to go with. Although she doesn’t want to go, she does want to get better so the next day she picks up the pills from a strange lady, and back at home she takes the pill.

I’m not sure what the theme is yet but I think it could be that friendship are stronger then any problem, because her best friend is always trying to make her feel better even in the beginning when she is sick and needs help going home, or when she is homesick, she brings her chicken noodle soup. Plus my prediction is that later when they are under the spell Scarlett will need her friends help, but I’m sure the theme will change.

I don’t have a favorite part in the book, but what I really do like is I feel like the author, really gets the mood and characteristics of a teenage girl onto paper. The author adds little side thoughts and sentences here and there that really show and understand how a sick, annoyed teenager would feel.

I rate this book a 3.5-4. It is definitely not my favorite book, but I do like the plot and the story, but I think I might abandon it.

Genre: Fantasy. I believe my book is fantasy because it includes different magical elements. For instance there are dragons, magic wands, trolls, transfiguration, spells and much more. These examples prove that Harry Potter is fantasy because the elements are all some sort of magic.

Summary: Harry Potter is a brave, young 11 year old boy who lives with is awful uncle aunt and his cousin Dudley. They treat him extremely horribly controlling his every move. This all changes once Harry sees a surprising letter in the mail addressed to him. He soon finds out the truth about his parents and their magical world. And before you know it Harry has gathered all his school supplies and is heading on a train toward Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. There he learns all kinds of magical spells potions and much more. He even gains himself a spot on the Gryffindor quidditch team. But it's not all fun and games at this magical school, he now knows that there is a soon to be stolen sorcerer's stone from the castle. Him and his new friends Ron and Hermione try to stop the thief. 

Theme: The theme of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is it often takes bravery and courage for one to make the world a better place, whether your sacrificing your own life or stopping a thief from stealing. I think this is the theme because all Harry and his friends needed to help stop the stone from getting stolen was bravery. If him and his friends didn't have the courage to stop the thief from stealing they wouldn't have saved the stone from being stolen. 

Favorite Part: My favorite part of the book was when Harry, Ron, and Hermione would slip out of their beds and sneak around the castle. I like this part because it always had a lot of suspension because you didn't know if they were going to get caught or not.  

Rating: 5 stars. I rate this book 5 stars because it had a lot of suspense and a great plot. I like the basic story, or the plot, and I like how the author wrote the book, her style of writing.

What do I rate my book?

Theme : Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. This theme is apt for this book because Sofia believed so she saw the monsters no one else believed except Dr. Capistrano so no one saw. Sofia saw so she saw the beauty of the monsters and their feelings.

Rating :  Give this book a 4, this book was Avery nice try by the author but the thing is there are few passages in the book  that are a little confusing and many times weather intentionally or unintentionally the author jumped between the situations, but it was an amazing book otherwise.

Summary : Sofia, a cancer survivor middle schooler, and because of her abnormality she never felt special. In fact invisible ... Suddenly, a day came to test her abilities of her care, bravery, and flexibility. A day that changes her life when a book in her closet, which allows her to talk to the Artistole’s last student, a Greek philosopher, Xeno. It also allows to see the beauty and the unknown of monsters. Now Sofia has to display her attention to her school, initial crushes, and mostly her monsters.

 

Rating: I would give this book a 4.5 because it is descriptive adventurous and fun and I like how the author draws you in. The book overall is nice, but since it was based on old London the people have accents and the book is a little hard to understand. I really like this book and would recommend someone to read it.

 

Favorite part: My favorite part was when Polly and Digory are in the lost city of Charn and when the evil queen saves them and they are about to leave she says let’s go, both kids get suspicious and then ask why and she says to them. “ To your world of course.” After it takes them a few minutes to understand and they find out that she was going to conquer their world. That was my favorite part.

Theme: The theme of this book probably; Beginning and End. Because when Digory and Polly reach Charn a world that has ended it felt scary, dark, sad , and negative to them they really didn’t like the place. When both kids kids entered Narnia the world that started right when they entered the world they felt calm, warmed, and loved, by the loins singing and by the young sun which made the kids happy and they wanted to stay there rather than leave back to the real world. That’s what I think.

Summary: A girl named Polly and a boy named Digory decide to go on an adventure through the townhouse attics to the forbidden house while they where going the enter Digory’s Evil uncles study. The evil uncle sends them to another world where they meet an evil queen. The evil queen traps them to bring her to their world and she startes destroying London. So Digory and Polly try to stop her and accidentally bring her, uncle Andrew (Digory’s uncle), a cabby (horse driver), and horse with them to the land of Narnia. Where they find a loin.
