The LGBTQ+ movement was created for the purpose of helping LGBTQ+ community achieve equal rights in life. Many times in the last century, people of the LGBTQ community were constantly seen as sick and and as a disgrace of a human being. One of the earliest organizations for the gay rights movement was created by a man in the 19th century by the name of George Cecil Ives. Early on in his mission, he realized that society would not take homosexuality in a good way, so he created an underground system in which gays could communicate. It's obvious that we've come far in the gay rights movement, but there are still societal complications. The gay community does not want to be a separate part of society. We just want to be seen as actual people in society. The community also wants to not only be heard, but listened to as well.
source

Pride Parades and Showing off your Pride

Pride parades happen everywhere and all over the place. Pride parades or festivals is when many people in that area who are LGBT get together to walk down streets in pride flags, makeup and many colored clothing to show off their pride and whatnot. Its a great place to go to support the community even if you're LGBT or not but just want to support someone. While gay marriage had been legal in North Carolina since October of 2014, there is still many homophobic tendencies and acts that go around- especially with the transgenders, and how they don't always feel comfortable. In some high schools, such as Long Leaf School of Arts, there is a gender neutral bathroom for the trans people ,non binary, a-genders, and gender neutrals to be able to use the bathroom in comfort without having to hold it in until they got home.
