Creative writing class

During my senior year of high school, I took a creative writing class that got me more into writing and further solidified my interest in English. We had many different writing assignments that involved writing short stories, writing in different points of view, writing poetry, etc. I never had many opportunities to explore different genres of writing prior to taking that class, so I grew a lot as a writer by the end of that semester.

Editor

As someone who already has prior experience to editing and an interest in the field, a career option for me would be an editor. I've always loved looking at other people's writing and giving my feedback and suggestions on it, so becoming an editor would be a good fit for me.

Copy writer

Another career option that I'm interested in exploring is the copy writer field. As someone who not only has a love for writing but also an interest in minoring in business, becoming a copy writer would interest me because it combines both aspects of English and Business.

Creativity

I would consider myself and my writing to be more on the creative side, and this is useful as an English major considering the good deal of writing we have to do both in school and in our careers after college. Most of my creativity comes out when I'm writing short stories, but it's present in all forms of my writing.

Whenever I read a complicated text or listen to a song with a deeper meaning behind the lyrics, I like to read it multiple times to try and uncover what the writer was trying to convey. This is especially true for poetry, where the big idea isn't as obvious during your first read-through.

Librarian

As someone with an interest in all kinds of literature, I think becoming a librarian would be another good option for me. If I were to pursue library science, I would learn about so many different books and forms of literature, and helping other people find said books would make me feel fulfilled.

Short stories

Throughout my life I've written a few fiction short stories. Most of the stories I wrote years ago weren't very good, but of course, I grew as a writer the more I wrote. An example of a short story I wrote a few years ago was titled, "The Midnight Fairy," which is a retelling of Rapunzel.

Imaginative

I have a pretty big imagination, which could be a good or bad thing depending on the context. However, I consider it a good thing in this regard because it ties into my creativity as a reader and writer. This is one of the reasons why I'm able to read many books while being heavily invested.

Reading

Even as a kid, you would most likely find me with my nose in a book, and that is still true to this day. It's no surprise that I read a lot as an English major, which is one of the core reasons why I chose this path in college. Reading a lot throughout my life has given me a better understanding of the English language and I've become more interested in the language as a result of many books I've read.

School newspaper

During my junior year of high school, I was one of the editors for my school newspaper for one semester. I was only part of the newspaper for a short period of time because of time conflicts, but I was able to grow so much in my editorial skills within that time. Getting to look at other students' writing and critiquing it was lots of fun, and that experience definitely made my love for English grow.
