I believe that even in the year 2021 many colleges are still only admitting students who fit their mold rather than admitting various students from various backgrounds. I hope that through this padlet I can help academic advisors understand ethical and legal reason for admitting students of all backgrounds into their campuses. I chose this topic because for years many people fought for desegregation in schools. Many cases such and Brown vs. the Board of Education of Topeka and Mendez vs. Westminster accused their school districts of segregating schools and not giving their children the right to a better education. Although we have come a long way we can still see discrimination when it come to race and college admission. We have seen recently seen in the news cases where wealthy families bought their child's way into college. We can also see a large gap when looking at Ivy League schools. 50%of students there are Caucasian while only 13% are African American and Latino. We need to stop and evaluate whether the admission process is ethically correct and legally correct.

In this particular article they discuss a supreme court ruling that does not allow college admissions to use race as a factor when determining acceptance. In 2008 Abigail Fisher automatically fit the acceptance criteria because she graduated top ten in her class. However after being denied an acceptance she sued the University of Texas at Austin, under claims that they denied her because of race.
