Something adults frequently misunderstand about teens and adolescents is that they can be grumpy. Something adults can do to at least try to understand adolescents is to simply listen to what they have to say, and maybe they can use some of their knowledge to help coach them.      I think that the adults misunderstand what the social norms are in middle school, mostly because they haven’t experienced it for a while, or the trends have changed. Adults may be more experienced than adolescents but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they understand fully what it’s like to be going through puberty and the complex changes we go through. 
Most of us know that middle school relationships won’t last long, but we’re learning and growing.
