Yoga in Christian belief is a controversial topic. It is often questioned whether it is appropriate for christians to take part in and whether or not it is a sin. Because the exercise originates from a different religion, some believe it will let the devil into your body.
Meditation is considered dangerous for your faith to some christians and some people consider it "new age" and non traditional, making it inappropriate.
On the other side of the faith there are people claiming that yoga is a great religious aid and practice for relation to God. Some claim rather than pulling you further away it builds your relationship with God and is a community building bonding activity.
The spiritual aspect of the practice coming from Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism is very peaceful and can relate to many different beliefs. For this reason, many people of christian faith believe it goes against their beliefs as it comes from a "competing" religion.

Yoga and meditation are a large part of the buddhist religion. Buddhism along with Hinduism and Jainism are the founding religions of yoga. In buddhism, yoga is a spiritual practice and is a part of the meditative "prayer" a buddhist practices. The main goal or life purpose in buddhism is to be mindful of every moment and movement, and to live a moral life. Practicing yoga and meditation is a part of this life goal as both bring you closer to mindfulness and paying attention to the moment you are in.

Yoga is a spiritual, physical and mental set of moves, breathing exercises and other meditative actions originating in Ancient India.
Yoga is a factor in culture as it is an activity done in many communities but is seen differently through each community. In some countries it is an everyday activity, accepted by the whole of society like India. In others it is uncommon and seen as strange or unimportant. In North America it has become a trend and much of the spiritual aspect has been taken away.

The beliefs of the Baha'i faith concerning yoga are that yoga is not a part of the religion. Although many people of the faith do take part in yoga, it has no relation to their spiritual or mental beliefs or practice. It is not looked down upon to do yoga, but recommended that it is used only as physical exercise, nothing mental.
Baha'i beliefs include harmony between human beings, equality of the sexes, harmony between religion and science and the overall wellbeing of humanity. It is a very peaceful religion. The practice of yoga does not go against any of these beliefs, but does not enforce the specific beliefs as it comes from other religions.

On the topic of yoga, I believe it is a useful tool for clearing the mind and grounding yourself. The spiritual aspect of the practice is very calm and private which I admire.
