EQ: What is the meaning of freedom?

In my eyes, the meaning of freedom is power and control. Power and control over your own beliefs, body, and character. Not having to listen or obey anyone or anything. In the Bill of Rights, the first amendment ensures we, the people have the freedom. This ensured people could live life without restriction. In today's society, social media plays a huge role. Social media makes a big impact in showing people we need our freedom. Whether it is freedom of speech, freedom of religion, or freedom of expression. Social media is used to express ourselves. We have control over our accounts, posts, etc. Social media can also be used to bring awareness to many important topics. These topics could range from gun violence, poverty, freedom, rights, and many more. Using social media in any way we want is an example of the freedom of speech we have.

In the first amendment of the Bill of Rights, congress established freedom of speech. The purpose was to ensure the people are allowed to have opinions without interference. When the Bill of Rights passed, future generations from then on could have opinions and ideas without fear and interference. This amendment has a significant meaning to me.

The first amendment guarantees freedom. "It guarantees freedom of expression by prohibiting Congress from restricting the press or the rights of individuals to speak freely." Speaking freely gives Americans a sense of individuality. People should not take this for granted. Many keep quiet because of the fear of judgement. Anything could be said freely.

The first amendment states the intention of freedom for the people. Free exercise is important especially in today's society. In today's society people still fight for freedom, and their rights. People believe the government still controls us. The first amendment was to ensure freedom of speech, meaning having opinions and thoughts. As well as freedom of religion which you are not to be told what you should believe in like the old times. The first amendment allows us to express ourselves truthfully, without being told we people are in the wrong.
