Puritans are a group of English members of a religious movement known as Puritanism. They had strict religious discipline and wanted to eliminate practices they viewed as corrupt in the Church of England. They highlighted the importance of bible study and daily integrity. They immigrated to America in the seventeenth century to escape religious persecution and create a society based on their religious beliefs. They were known for their strong community.

The theory "City Upon A Hill" was in 1630 when the Puritans envisioned the Massachusett colony as a model Christian society for the other nations to see. Puritans wanted other countries to think they were perfect. They believed that they had a mission to create a society based on moral religious principles, and the world saw their actions. They made it clear that their success and failures were reflected by God's judgment. The City Upon the Hill theory was a utopian city to symbolize America's beliefs and roles in the world.

Calvinism was a theological belief by the Puritans. The belief consisted of total depravity, Predestination, Limited atonement, and Grace. Total Depravity was that humankind was sinful through the fall of Adam and Eve. Predestination was that some people were elected from God or unregenerate and you never knew if you were truly elected. Limited atonement was the belief Christ only died for the elect. Grace was the feeling people had when they felt an intense emotion from god.

Witchcraft Hysteria was a strong belief that Satan was acting in the world and was recruiting witches and wizards to work with him. They believed people were witches when they had certain symptoms or were different from the social norms. It started from a foreign influence from Tituba which evolved from teenage boredom. Teenagers had no source of entertainment which made them interested in witchcraft. They believed to know if someone was a witch is if the person had a third nipple.
