The same can be said regarding the Black Lives Matter movement today; many Americans agreed with the eventual goal but not the bold tactics. According to a 1966 poll, two-thirds of Americans had an unfavorable view of MLK. And most Americans were opposed to the 1963 March on Washington that Dr. King led because they were afraid it would result in rioting. Historic moments of social change are not always popular at the time that they’re happening.

Are there similarities between the way people criticized the past Civil Rights movement and the way people criticize the current Black Lives Matter movement?

Attached is a video from "Stormy Weather" with Cab Calloway. The brothers received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 1991 Kennedy Center Honors. The Nicholas Brothers began their career during a time in history when opportunities were limited for Black performers, however, they became known all over the world for their greatness.

Although denied many academic and professional opportunities because he was African American, he became a trailblazer in the area of chemistry and medicine. In addition, he invented Aero-Foam which was a product that used soy protein to put out oil and gas fires - this was used during World War II. He began his own laboratory and became one of the first Black millionaires in the US.
