Rufus tagged along for these specific needs mateo had. mateo and rufus had extremely different personalitys that compliment each other well, although they are different they get along well through their last day together. 

in the story there is a lot of conflict, both internal and external. Since mateo and rufus have differences they may disagree at times. Rufus and Mateo decide to finally meet, Rufus is going to help Mateo help say proper goodbye to his dad and best friend Lidia.

In this story there are many conflicts since both Rufus and Mateo are very different from each other but match each other. The conflict is both internal and external, like when they don't agree on something they kinda have to just forget about it because its they're last day.
