Madam President

Madam President is a book by Lane Smith. Smith tells the story of how a young girl would spend a day as president. She explains all of her duties as president, including day-to-day activities, like daily briefs and speaking with media outlets. Then, she takes us through the more serious tasks, like choosing a skillful cabinet and keeping the peace. Our main character describes what characteristics a president should have, like diplomacy and being able to work well under pressure. At the end of the day, though, being the president is hard work, because a president's work is never done.

Lane Smith was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but his family moved to Corona, California when he was a young boy. His mother, he says, held many jobs. Most notably, though, she was a teacher at Sears Charm School, where she was also able to provide lessons at a juvenile detention center. His father was an accountant at Rockwell International in Anaheim during the Apollo space program. Every summer he would travel Route 66 to vacation with his relatives. He is now married to Molly Leach, a book designer who has designed many of Smith's works. They live together in the New England area. Smith's books are comedy-driven. For example, John, Paul, George, and Ben is a satirical look at America's founding fathers.

It's a Book is about two characters, a monkey who loves books, a tech-savvy donkey, and a candid mouse. The monkey is reading a book with the mouse when the donkey, with a laptop in his hands, asks the monkey about the book. The donkey asks if the book can do things that his computer can do, like scroll, blog, and tweet. The monkey replies to each question with, "It's a book." The conversation goes on for the rest of the book. This book reminds me a lot of Green Eggs and Ham, where Sam I Am tries to convince the unnamed narrator to try green eggs and ham.
