The Information wall should contain the following:

-Identify The Ten Commandments of Computer Ethics

-Insert possible resources (e.g. images, videos, sound) that would aid people in complying with these rules.

-Address the following questions within this information wall.

Q1. Which of the Ten Ethical Computing Guidelines do you think students violate most often?

Q2. Why do you think these violations occur?

Q3. What do you think could be done to reduce or eliminate such unethical behavior?

Q1. The 8th Commandment

Out of all of the ten commandments of computer ethics, students usually violate the 8th commandment the most: Thou Shalt Not Appropriate Other People’s Intellectual Output. In today's society, students use sources like ChatGPT, Liner, Grammarly, and more, which is equivalent to plagiarism. They may use these sources because they may want the easy way out of assignments; they may feel unconfident in their abilities and their work; they may also feel under pressure.

Q2. Why Violate the Commandments?

Violations of the Ten Commandments of Computer Ethics often happen because many students don’t fully understand the rules or what they mean. Some people don’t realize that copying code, looking through someone else’s files, or using another person’s account without permission is wrong. Peer pressure also plays a big role — when students see others breaking these rules and getting away with it, they may feel like it’s normal or even necessary to do the same. Technology also makes it really easy to break the rules. With just a few clicks, someone can copy answers, steal work, or disrespect others online. Another big reason is pressure. When students are stressed about grades or deadlines, they might feel like they have no choice but to take shortcuts. Finally, many students don’t see the harm in what they’re doing. They might think, “It’s just a file,” or “No one’s getting hurt,” but even small actions can affect others. That’s why it’s so important to not just know the rules, but to think about how our choices with technology affect people around us.

To reduce or even stop unethical behavior with computers, schools and teachers need to spend more time teaching students about digital ethics. Many students break the rules without knowing they’re doing something wrong, so the first step is helping them understand what the Ten Commandments of Computer Ethics really mean in everyday situations. Teachers can also give real-life examples to show the consequences of unethical actions, like cheating or stealing someone else’s work. It also helps to build a school culture where honesty and respect are expected, not just in person, but online too. Schools should make it clear that there are consequences for breaking these rules, but they should also support students who are struggling — for example, by offering help before deadlines instead of just punishing cheating. If students feel supported and understand why ethics matter, they’ll be more likely to do the right thing.
