Baby Boomers 1946-1964
The Baby Boomers generation is associated with hippies, the hippies were a young movement that started in the USA, they listened to psychedelic music and started a sexual revolution, one of the phrases that is associated with them is “peace and love”.
One of the major events in this generation is the Vietnam war that started in 1955 and ended in 1975.
Another major event is Woodstock festival, that technically didn’t happen in the Baby Boomers generation but is related to them, the festival was all about music, love, unity, sex and drugs. The festival was highly conversational due to it happening during the Vietnam war.
Another event is the assassination of JFK that happened in 1963, it was a shock to all people in the USA. 
He was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald while he was in his car with his wife, the Texas governor and governor’s wife.

I chose Baby Boomers generation. 

Baby boomers are the generation born after World War II (1946-1964), also known simply as “boomers”. They are named after the post-war spike in birth rates, referred to as the baby boom. This means that, as of 2020, baby boomers are between 56 and 74 years old. 

While baby boomers still lag behind younger generations in technology adoption, a large majority of boomers use the internet (85 percent), and their use of Facebook has increased by double digits over the last last decade. Baby boomers surpassed previous generations in educational attainment. Also, this generation did mark a surge for women in the workforce, up 26 percent for women aged 22 to 37 compared to the silent generation.

There were a lot of major generation events, here are some of them: Vietnam War, Civil Rights Movement, Technological Innovation, Space exploration and of course Cold War.

As they grew older, some baby boomers began to resist this consumerist suburban ethos. They began to fight instead for social, economic and political equality and justice for many disadvantaged groups: African-Americans, young people, women, gays and lesbians. Student activists took over college campuses, organized massive demonstrations against the war in Vietnam and occupied parks and other public places.

One thing that makes this group so interesting is their confidence in the future. After such long battles, this group is known for its positive, confident attitude that the future looked comfortable and prosperous. They watched labor unions to help to improve working conditions for people. They also saw schools become more accessible.

Baby Boomers were a hard-working generation. And, they value that hard work. Yet, they also have a strong desire to enjoy a higher quality of life. Some of the key characteristics of these individuals include:

  • They valued individual choice.
  • They saw community involvement as necessary and essential.
  • They sought health and wellness in new ways.
  • They were self-actualizing.
  • They wanted and worked hard to earn prosperity.
  • They sought ownership of businesses and homes.
  • They were confident in the tasks they had to do.
  • They worked hard to avoid conflicts and sought a more pleasant way to communicate.
  • They adapted easily to change.
  • They also had a maintained positive attitude throughout their days.
  • Most are very goal oriented, but they also worked well in teams.

This generation also began the movements towards equal rights, and they understood the pressures of failure. Yet, they continued to work hard to achieve the goals they set out.

What did they do:
they are the first consumers to have grown up wholly in the digital era.

Social media opened the door to sharing perspectives and engaging in discourse is common. Gen Z’ers are eager to share their ideas and opinions and have no problem challenging the status quo.

Gen Z brings their values and beliefs into the workforce and believes their values should be at the heart of their work.

This group is very focused and competitive in most areas of life. Not only do they want to get into the best schools and get the highest paying jobs, they want to win every debate and every sporting event. Competition constantly drives this group.

Gen X are in the years 1965-1980, following the Baby boomers. Most members of Gen X are the children of the silent generation. 
Gen X is also called "MTV Generation" because many of the members were influenced by the music tv channel "MTV".

In the United States, divorce rates and women workforce participation grew. 

Gen X children were the first one's who had access to a PC (personal computer) in their homes and schools. 

Gen X members were more educated than their parents. ( Gen X focused more on school and education)

I chose to explore Generation Z.
Generation Z is the largest generation in American history that was born between 1997-2012 and ranges the ages 10-25.

There are some interesting facts I found about this generation.

*Gen Z was born into a world of peak tech­no­log­i­cal inno­va­tion, where infor­ma­tion was imme­di­ate­ly acces­si­ble and social media increas­ed everywhere.
They don’t know what life without mobile phones looks like.

*Members of Gen Z are fighting for social change, racial equity, and protecting the environment. 
They surround themselves with people from various ethnic, religious and racial backgrounds. 

*Gen Zers may stay up till late hours using smartphones and social media, and as a result of this extreme exposure to the internet, they rarely communicate  "in person" and "face to face" with others. It causes them to feel more lonely and not needed. 

*Gen Z seeks out learning opportunities to improve skills and prefers individual tasks over team-based activities. They like independence but not isolation!
