When on the Internet, a person leaves a digital footprint, information about a person that exists on the Internet as a result of his or her online activity. The is very important for students to understand because leaving a trail on the Internet can damage a person's reputation (Internet Society).

Pros: Someone can save passwords and logins to a website he or she has already accessed.

Con: Digital footprints may allow others to follow one's actions such as seeing previously-viewed sites and others that follow you.

Three steps to managing our footprint (Commonsense Education, 2015):

1.) Never share private information online such as your full name, address, phone number, age, birthday, or your school. You can share personal information such as hobbies and interests.

2.)Make sure what you are sharing is Safe, Responsible, and Respectful.

3.) If you are not sure what is okay to post, ask an adult first!

Being a digital citizen is a part of having digital literacy. To be a digital citizen, we have to look at the words closely. Digital means any use of technology, so look around your house and see how many digital items you can find. Leave a comment telling me all of the digital items you have! Next, citizen means you are a part of a group of people. Just as you are a citizen of your classroom, you are also a citizen online. Therefore digital citizenship means you are a part of a group of people that use technology to communicate (study.com, 2018).

When a child is being cyberbullied, it is important he or she follows these five steps:

1.) Do not respond. Any response can be used and spread to others.

2.) Sign off and block the bully. On cell phones, only answer known numbers and use privacy settings on social media sites.

3.) Change contact information. If someone is pretending to be you or your child online, change the password to that site. If false profiles are created, report cyberbullying to the company that host the site.

4.) Save all bullying emails.

5.) Parents- do not assume that your child will discuss be cyberbullied with you. Your child might be afraid, angry, or ashamed. Therefore, if your child does discuss being cyberbullied, be sure you listen to them.
