Phoenicia was very small compared to other empires, like Egypt and Kush. It was on the mediterranean and was made up of lots of islands. The land was densely made up of trees and mountains. Since it was so small, the people had to give up things to other, bigger empires to not be invaded. They were still occupied many times, and the people had to live with this. Their main export was cedar wood, which was traded everywhere because it was water resistant, which made it good for building ships.
