Watney needs to learn the shape of the storm to avoid it between sols 476+477 the cell efficiency drops 4.5% which shows the storm is moving east to west. By sol 479 he calculates the storms to the north so he drives south then east which took him way off course. He is lonely. He drove into a crater and crashed but was able to keep going slowly. NASA knows he crashed but said he should be fine because the Rover is designed to handle a roll over.

Chpt 17- watney found out that they are coming to rescue him. he has to start getting ready for the rescue. The needs to make a 50 day trip to the area 4 mav.

Chpt 18- watney keeps endangering himself through his own "stupidity" he decides he'll continue with the trip to ares 4 mav and do rover modifications without NASA's help.

chpt 21 - Watney is testing all of the equipment and packing up all the food for his big journey. Watney also mentally plans his route.

chpt 22 - Venkat goes on Cathy Warner's CNN to report on the challenges of the dust storm. Venkat hopes Mark will find a way around the storm.

Watney is reading the emails from his friends and family members to keep his mind off of being stuck in mars. He is waiting for ares 4 to arrive. while waiting for ares 4 he is saving food and planting potatoes to live on mars. He is trying to find ways to get to ares 4. to be saved and to find communication to earth.

In Chapter 19, Lewis and her husband, Robert, get to have a five-minute video chat. Robert tells Lewis he knows she’s doing the right thing, but he misses her. He adds that he’s found an original 1976 eight-track of Abba’s Greatest Hits.

Chapter 20, Watney is basically finishing up the rover to get to Schiaparelli.

in chapter 15 Watney has patched up the hab and re-pressurized it and the potato farm is dead. mark has till sol 584 until he starts to starve. the team has to make a supply probe in 48 days in order for it to reach mars by sol 584, it will only carry food.

in chapter 16 Dr Shields when to chigago to see watneys parents and talk to them about the mars mission if he dies. cnsa said that their taiyang shen probe could've brought food to watney, or even save him.

chpt 17- watney makes a trailer to carry an atmospheric regulator, oxygenation and water reclaimer. He needed to drill a hole, so he used the rock sample drill, but he leaned it against pathfinder, and fried his only communication with NASA.

chpt 18- He figures he will continue to ares 4 without NASA's help. He figures how much energy it would take to get to the MAV, and how many days. He test how much weight he can haul and how much power it would take. He heats water with the RTG to take a bath, and then pulls something in his back the next day and rests for 7 days.

Chapter 9: Watney has been driving for eight days. He is collecting his waste for when he gets back to the hab. The RTG,solar panels and batteries are working as intended. He's currently trying to find a way to communicate with people back on earth again.

Chapter 10: Watney is feeling positive and he's begun telling oil and rock samples in case he makes it back to Earth. Everything is growing well (potatoes). Watney removes the path finder from the rover and leaves it outside so he can communicate with NASA.

Watney finds out that NASA and JPK know that he is alive because his antenna moves. Chapter 12 is the dust storm that left watney stranded from the crews point of view.
