When they act out certain scenarios and take on different characters it teaches them so much more about life and how to overcome difficult situations. 
Social and language Development- This type of play provides different ways of communicating with other people, playing teacher for example is a great way to practice not only your language skills but also a Childs social skills.
Emotional and Cognitive Development- This play helps boost the development of problem-solving and self-regulation skills in different ways. For example, a child could be playing a game with other people where not everyone can have what they want which causes the problem. This will then lead to managing ones own emotion and talking about a way to solve this problem.
Physical Development- This play makes physical development fun because of certain activities like fitting a doll's arm through her jacket sleeves are really good for hand-coordination. Another example would be pretending to ride a pony and galloping around helps with gross motor development and coordination.

Social development- This play also requires them to show social skills of competition and cooperation like wrestling or even playing a game of tug of war with a group. 
Emotional development- This play allows children to show concern and care for another person when playing certain games that might lead to a child getting injured by falling or maybe by getting hit somewhere by accident. 
Physical development- This type of play helps children realize their own strengths by testing not only their limits but whomever else they are playing with as well as staying active and rolling around. For example a chasing game can help develop new skills as well as exercising their bodies. 
Cognitive development- Children will independently correct themselves and get better at problem solving so they can continue to play.

It has been said that play and social skills are common areas explicitly targeted in behavioral intervention for children with ASD, different ways to involve kids with autism is to get a teacher to set up a group game where everyone can be involved.
