THE BIELSKI BROTHERS.

Known as the diligent people who worked with their establishment of the partisan group, the Bielski Partisans, the Bielski brothers are responsible for the establishment of this contribution of resistance against the actions of the Germans anti-Semitism amidst the period of the Holocaust and World War II.

MEET THE BROTHERS:
Tuvia – the commander, former Zionist activist, Polish army veteran
Asael – deputy of Tuvia
Zus – individual in charge of reconnaissance

Before the madness of the German's anti–Semitism took place, the Bielski household was a Jewish farming family who was very much similar with the region; due to the brothers' familiarity of the geography (of the region), customs, and people, the Partisan group had grown to be able to avoid such risks such as German authorities and their Belorussian auxiliaries.

GUERILLA OPERATIONS;
– managed to acquire guns (help from non-Jewish Belorussian friends)
– captured German and Soviet weapons and equipment (supplied by Soviet Partisans)

ENCOURAGED JEWS FROM GHETTOS TO ESCAPE AND JOIN THE BIELSKI PARTISANS IN THE FOREST;
– ghettos: Lida, Nowogréodek, Minsk, Iwie, Mir Baranoqicse
– sent guides to escort Jews from ghettos to the forest
– searched roads for Jewishe escapees in need of protection

COOPERATIONS;
– establish a friendly relationship with the Soviet Partisan commander, General Vasily Yefimovich Cherryshev, who protected the Bielski group

THE BIELSKI PARTISAN MISSION.

The leaders of the Bielski Partisan Group stressed the importance of creating this "safe haven" for all Jews (women, children, and eldery). Busy with the crucial tasks of escorting Jews to safety, the Bielskis also carried dangerous guerilla operations against their enemies (namely the Germans with anti–Semitism beliefs).

1942: a special mission which saved over 100 Jews from the Iwie ghetto before the Germans confirmed their plans to liquidate it.
AUTUMN 1942: member count – 100+
OCTOBER 1942: Bielski and Soviet Partisans attacked German supply convoy, killing at least one solider
[END OF] 1942: member count – 300+
SUMMER OF 1943: the Bielski group led a Nomadic exsitence in the forests
AUGUST 1943: the German's massive manhunt targeting Russian, Polish, and Jewish Partisans in region -> deployment of 20,000+ military personnel, SS, and police; reward offer of 100K Reichmarks for information on Tuvia Bielski
AUGUST 1943: member count – 700/800+ ; large in numbers, so Bielskis were vulnerable to be discovered by Germans -> moved to permanent base (Camp Jerusalem) in the Nalibaki Forest
1944: camp leaders recieved weapons from Soviet Partisan headquarters
JULY 1944: Red Army liberates region which the location of the Bielskis resided in

RESULTING IMPACT OF THE BIELSKIS.

With the methods, operations, and efforts of the Bielski Partisans, the result of this resistance project during the Holocaust resulted in:

– establishment of Camp Jerusalum (which had a kitchen, forge, school, gunsmith, and mill!)
– 1,200+ Jews surviving the war
– killed 300 enemy soldiers

In the end, the resistance of the Bielski Partisan Group was one of the most successful rescue efforts admist World War II and the Holocaust.

LIBERATION.
