Classical music, to me, is much like art that hangs in a museum. How did it get there? Who decided which pieces deserved spots in a museum gallery, and who decided that, say, "Nighthawks" by Edward Hopper would become an iconic piece of American art? Canonical western art music became what it is through its alignment with the values of people who were alive during its inception. To me, classical music is one of those artistic expressions that sounds great and makes me feel sophisticated when I listen, but when the music stops, I'm left thinking "I don't get it." I think my lack of musical experience probably contributes to that feeling of puzzlement

To be honest, the music seems a bit repetitive and drawn out, though it is very soothing. It's great to listen to while doing homework or studying. I just listened to a really long song, and it turned out to be written by Beethoven; I never even would've known! Did each composer have their own unique style? I can't seem to tell any of it apart.
