physical - children in the daycare sings with their movement, it is impotent for the children to sing with their body movements because they get to learn about the movements or with the words of the song.

Emotional - kids in the daycare always being happy and also when they get hurt they would cry, but when they are having fun for each other they would make teachers make their day. It is important for the children to have fun or to be sad as they have feelings, also they need to feel loved and support from the teacher or from their parents.

Social - kids in the daycare always play with other kids when ever they get along well, they always have fun when their in a good mood, also when they are singing they would copy one another about the movement of the songs. They would play some toys and pretending to be the character that they want to be. It’s is important for the kids to have friends or someone who can be there by their side as they wont feel alone or they wont feel disconnected with other kids.

Daily program in the daycare. Children comes at 8:30am to 9:00am as the schedule is said to not be late to drop off the kids to daycare, also if the kid gonna be dropped off late the parents would have to call to the manager. At 9:30am the children would have to wash their hands or potty first then they would have breakfast. At 10:00am after their breakfast their hands would be washed again so that they wont touch the toys or any objects with their dirty foodie hands. Then they would play outdoors and shovel the snow or slide in the little playground. Half an hour they would play and they go inside and have the circle time and singing a song or the teacher would read some book to the children. At 11:30am the teachers would prepare the napping mats and baby bottles to get ready. After the children fell a sleep the workers would prepare some art works or activists to the children so that when they woke up after their snacks at 2pm they would have some fun actives such as arts and crafts. The children always have a different themed everyday like, animal themed day, colours themed day, Inuit cultural themed day and etc. children learned so quick sometimes but sometimes they would not concentrate the things they have to be doing because they are more focus on what they want to be doing but most of the time they are more focus on what they have to be doing.

Use of a variety of community facilities and services on a regulation basis: School

Bringing the Daycare children to school for the Christmas concert is important so they will know what happens during the Christmas concerts and it’s important so the children also experience on what they do at the Christmas concert, and letting the Daycare children join the Christmas concert is important as for parents to see the children participating the Christmas concert. And the children inspires them wanting to go to school.

At the School gym they also gather for the Welcome back sun celebration, so the Daycare children can join the Welcome back sun celebration and everyone would be wearing yellow clothes for welcoming the sun and celebrating at the School gym. When children get back to the Daycare, the Caregivers would start would start asking what they seen at the gym (for example, there’s usually arts and crafts all around the gym and its all about welcoming the sun back and some do just use construction papers to make a sun). So if the children seen all the activity and the caregiver would let the children make the art and crafts activity about the sun and welcoming the sun celebration theme.

Regulation 24: Child with special needs.

To include all children in all aspects of the daily program, including learning and play activities.

It is helpful to include special needs children in learning and activities as they improve social skills where they get confidence in making friends. Special needs children get to experience what “normal” children learn in a regular environment which can be beneficial for their development.

Instead of having free play, make time for hands-on activities like sensory play. Although sensory play is great for all children, Special needs children develops motor skills, they socialize, and their emotional development improves. Sorting and categorizing helps with calming their body and mind, they get to concentrate and helps with cognitive development, they get to learn how to organize, how to count and learn what rows are. Sorting and categorizing can be used with different things such as shapes, numbers, & traceable worksheets or cards (Where they use fine motor skills). Make sure to teach basic math. You can use materials such as using blocks, or magnetic numbers. They learn problem-solving and to sort numbers. It is important for their brain (cognitive) development as when they transition to school, they will get to do more basic math.

All of these activities are good for children (including special needs children). Children with special needs are harder to keep them entertained while doing activities but you have to make sure to include them in everything. Make sure you have proper equipments and if you do not have any, ask the parents.

Nunavut daycare regulation assignment #23 (Jolene)

Why does the staff need to post daily program? Because they will know that what is planned throughout the month, like the activities they will do, where the kids will go as a class, when and where it will take place, which one of the staff is involved. Parents getting notes or calendars is a big thing too so they can prepare the child the day before the activity in the facility.

What it means? Post the daily program is that you have to make a calendar and add the days when the activities would take place, mostly on special occasions/events like when the holidays are coming up, decorating the room so the kids will know that what theme it has to be, who is involved, if its a winter, summer, spring or fall season. Most daycare’s usually have a calendar that has all the days in a month and they make up a day and on one of the days is a different activity for each one. Daycares that has different age group has different ones they follow, but Nunavut has a shortage of daycares so they tend to follow only one calendar or the daily program that is listed to them.

How? At a daycare there is a whiteboard or a chalkboard that is used for the announcements of the events happening so the parents can be reminded that the event is happening on this day and what time it will be at. Being at a daycare there is a very tight time limit has they have other plans or times they follow like for snack, nap, arts and crafts and circle time they do, but the caregivers/staff also make things work for them to have extra fun and get to learn more thing around the daycare. Give each parent a calendar or an email so they can remember the day and time if they can come and watch their children doing an activity or something special they’d like to watch. Giving news to each parent one by one is hard, emailing the parent or the main guardian of the child can be helpful too. But be sure to know not all of the parents have social media or a phone to check on what will happen in the facility.
