I believe a cross represents Rose in this chapter. She is expressing her faith in Christ and allowing herself to be saved by him. "According to the Bible, Jesus said he was preparing a place for his people so that where he is, they would also be." Rose reflects on this thought to herself and knows she wants to have that place in Gods mansion teeming with souls of those who have full faith in him. She wants to be a soul with full faith in him so she turns her back on hell and faces toward the light of Christ through the tie to God she gets in Baptism. Some crosses are worn out and old, and some are new and shiny, but no matter what they look like they still have the same meaningful image of Christ and that's what God teaches us. No matter how old or how poor, our faith in him is what matters, we are made in his image and perfect for that matter and this is what Rose now sees.

I chose this blue-green color so that I could do two different emotions mixed together. Blue is for the humiliation Rose Lee felt when her dress was dirty, and green is for the jealousy she felt towards Sugar and Li' Man. "Good schools for Sugar and Li' Man, huh? With white children. Well what about me and Fred Lee? Don't we deserve good schools too instead of that haunted school for coloreds where everything in it is junk the white folks didn't want in their children's schools anymore?"

Levi or Fish. But right to vote? That would be Mr. Albert. He was the only one old enough to vote. Now I was even more confused"

In chapter 4 a symbol that represents Rose Lee in this chapter is fire. Rose Lee is very angry and showing a bunch of emotions. They are all shooting out of her body, the main 2 emotions are anger and sadness. On page 44 it says, "...I pressed my face in my palms and screamed. I screamed until my stomach hurt." This quotation is showing how angry Rose Lee is at the fact that Levi was shot for registering to vote. The fire represents this because she is angry and heated from the whole situation, which reminds me of a fire. On page 44 it says, "I raised my face from my palms and wiped away tears with my sleeve." This is another quotation, but it is showing her sad side of the situation. You know when you are so angry you just start to cry, this is what is happening to Rose Lee.

In the chapter, this image represents Rose because of her hidden feeling of difference and subordination. During the chapter, the organization NAACP is introduced which helps the advancement of colored people. Also, Rose is told that 7th grade is enough education and she should help in the cotton fields instead. Rose thinks; Why do these even have to be realities? Well, just because she is black she is put at a disadvantage compared to the white people. For example, Ma Pearl says, "College ain't free. So how a poor negro like you supposed to go." All of these things dehumanize and make Rose feel subordinate to others.

I chose the top of a mountain because this image shows me confidence. In this chapter, Rose Lee felt confident standing in the mirror looking a herself. She felt accomplished, independent, and most of all good about herself. She was happy and she said she was ready to conquer the world.

"I knew I probably looked like a fool standing before the mirror, dancing in my undergarments, but at the moment, I didn't feel like one. Also and when she cries to rose lee and rose lee comforts her. The only reason why this chapter is not black is because I think of black as a very dark color with no light. But the reason i chose grey is because grey has some light in it. The light in the chapter is rose lee thinking about a new life in St. Louis, and condoling queen so she feels more light and less dark.
