--Only males had acting jobs, women parts were played by men
--The audience could see the actors, no backstage
--People could pay more for a balcony seat, or they could stand and spectate
--Actors had to be able to fence with skill or do complicated dances
--Most costumes were modern (for their time), not based on the play's time (not usually togas in a Roman play, etc)
