AMIR IS A GOOD MAN, BUT A COWARD

He makes his first mistakes when he is very young – being a twelve year old boy. He is just a young child, and his life at the moment is filled with innocence, rather than intentional wrong doing. His first act, though, which defines him as a coward is when he witnesses his loyal friend Hassan’s rape and his action of “almost” saying something. The repetition of “almost” emphasises the action. This initially creates the character of Amir the Coward.
Throughout the novel, due to this one point, Amir remains a coward and his future actions are always affected by his initial moment of cowardice. He begins to hate himself, and spends his life trying to repent for this single action.
Throughout the novel, Amir is never portrayed as a bad character through Hosseini's use of dialogue or description. Hosseini, throughout the story, is portray as a very realistic person, a flawed hero character who is good at heart but makes mistakes - a tool often used by authors.
